Arrests reports

Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Robert Burke, 51, of Patterson, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for five counts of issuing worthless checks.
Police came into contact with Burke while he was attempting to visit someone in the City Jail. Upon checking, it was found that Burke was wanted by Morgan City police on outstanding warrants. Burke was jailed.
—Travis Singleton, 30, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Friday for expired license plate and possession of marijuana.
Police conducted a traffic stop at Federal Avenue and Garber Street for a vehicle having an expired license plate. Upon making contact with the driver, Singleton, officers observed suspected marijuana in plain view. Upon retrieving the item, Singleton was jailed.
—Obil Acosta, 29, of Morgan City, was arrested at 7:46 p.m. Saturday for hit and run, no driver’s license, careless operation and possession of marijuana.
Police were dispatched to Louisiana Street in regard to a hit and run accident. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim and they advised that a vehicle being driven by Acosta was involved in an accident at Duke and Eighth streets when Acosta fled the scene.
The victim in the crash followed the suspect to a residence on Louisiana Street. Officers made contact with Acosta, and he admitted to being involved in an accident and fleeing the scene due to him not having a valid driver’s license, Banks said. Acosta was found to have a baggie of suspected marijuana in his pocket. Acosta was jailed.
—Courtney Smith, 26, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:20 p.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace, resisting an officer by giving false information and on a warrant for failure to appear for no driver’s license.
Police were dispatched to Apple Street in regard to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke to witnesses and were advised that Smith was involved in an argument with the resident. Smith left the area and returned a short time later carrying a bat, at which time officers were contacted.
Officers observed Smith to be still causing a disturbance upon their arrival. Officers made contact with Smith, who gave officers a false last name. Upon gaining Smith’s true identity, it was found that Smith was wanted on a warrant. He was jailed.
—Lawrence Blackburn, 36, of Morgan City, was arrested at 10:39 a.m. Monday for failure to appear for arraignment on driving under suspension.
Police took custody of Blackburn from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center, and he was brought to the Morgan City Police Department.
—Ronald Hall, 30, of Abbeville, was arrested at 10:59 p.m. Monday for failure to use turn signal, no driver’s license, and a warrant for failure to appear to pay fines for resisting an officer.
While on patrol, police observed a vehicle fail to use its turn signal at Freret and Sixth streets. Police conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Hall. He was jailed.
—Eric Driskill, 39, of Berwick, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. today for expired driver’s license, no vehicle registration, no license plate, no proof of insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police observed a vehicle at Federal Avenue and Levee Road that had an expired license plate. Police conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Driskill.
Upon placing Driskill under arrest, officers located a grinder in his possession that is used to grind illegal narcotics, Banks said. Driskill was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrest:
—Kendrick Howard, 35, of Napoleonville, was arrested at 3:24 p.m. Saturday in Amelia on two warrants from Lafourche Parish on traffic violations. He was jailed before paying one fine and being released on summons for the other charge.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Martaisha Brown, 29, of the 300 block of Levee Road in Morgan City, was rearrested at 6 p.m. Monday in Berwick on a Lafayette Parish warrant for failure to appear. She originally was arrested Saturday in Patterson on a Berwick warrant for telephone harassment and an additional charge of possession of marijuana. She was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Alexis P. Johnson, 21, of the 500 block of Tiffany Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 9:07 p.m. Monday for remaining where forbidden and simple criminal damage to property. Johnson was released after posting $15,000 bail.
