Attempted murder charged in stabbing
A 19-year-old Morgan City man was charged with attempted second degree murder Sunday morning after he was accused of stabbing another man in the abdomen during an altercation, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
Jair Razo, 19, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:59 a.m. Sunday for attempted second degree murder
Officers were dispatched to a Grizzaffi Street residence regarding a person who had been stabbed. Officers located a male victim with a wound to his abdomen, Banks said. Medical personnel were summoned to assist the victim while officers investigated the incident. Officers learned that the victim and Razo had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier, Banks said.
Officers learned that the verbal altercation turned physical. Razo, according to the victim, physically attacked the victim, stabbing him in the abdomen area with a knife, causing the wound, the chief said.
Officers located Razo, who admitted to stabbing the victim during the disturbance, Banks said. Officers conducted a search and located the weapon involved, which was seized as evidence. Razo was arrested and taken to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated. The victim was taken to a medical facility where he was listed in good condition, Banks said.
