Berwick woman accused of fleeing from deputy

A 55-year-old Berwick woman was charged Thurs-day with fleeing from a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy in Morgan City during a traffic stop, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Sandra Rogers, 55, of Nicklaus Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:12 p.m. Thursday on the charges of flight from an officer, improper lane usage and failure to signal a lane change.
The K-9 Unit traveling on U.S. 90 west in the Morgan City area observed a vehicle cross onto the shoulder of the roadway and initiated a traffic stop. The driver pulled to the side of the roadway and stopped. The deputy then observed the driver pull back onto the highway and drive away from the area, Hebert said.
The deputy followed, ob-serving the driver commit additional traffic violations. The driver came to a stop in Berwick where the deputy spoke with her and identified her as Rogers. Following the traffic stop investigation, Rogers was booked into parish jail and released on $1,500 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests:
—Shane Parenteau, 27, of Jena, was additionally charged with entering contraband into a penal institution at 5:14 p.m. Thursday. During a search of the kitchen area at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located a phone charger and found evidence that the contraband belonged to inmate Parenteau. He remains in jail.
—Kayla Parfait, 31, of Sterling Drive in Houma, was arrested at 12:20 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of resisting an officer, speeding and no driver’s license on person. A correctional officer transported Parfait from the Terrebonne Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Bail is set at $1,500.
—Crystal L. Gaspard, 31, of Melancon Road in Broussard, was arrested at 3:28 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt and careless operation of a vehicle. A correctional officer transported Gaspard from the Iberia Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Bail is set at $268.50.
—Varice K. Richardson, 22, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting. A deputy investigating a complaint in Amelia came into contact with Richardson and located the active warrant for his arrest. Bail is set at $250.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Rocky L. Sauce, 60, of Tabb Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:41 a.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Sauce was transported from the Patterson Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant and jailed.
—Paul Duval III, 46, of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
—Mariah Jackson, 26, of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
Officers responded to an address on Onstead Street in regard to a report of a disturbance. Police located Duval and Jackson, who appeared to show signs of a battery. During an investigation, officers found evidence that Duval and Jackson were involved in an argument which later turned into a physical altercation, Blair said. Both Duval and Jackson were jailed.
—Kristen M. Romero, 30, of Jennifer Street in New Iberia, was arrested at 2:52 a.m. today on the charges of improper headlights, driving under suspension and no vehicle insurance.
A patrolling officer ob-served a vehicle with improper headlights traveling in the area of Brashear Avenue near Sixth Street. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Romero, who had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle also didn’t have insurance. Romero was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
