Berwick woman booked on drug charges after home search

A 32-year-old Berwick woman was arrested on multiple drug charges Thursday after authorities located methamphetamine, LSD, marijuana and several types of pills inside a Berwick home, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Laura Leftwich, 32, of Burchfield Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 6:08 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of Adderall, possession of Subutex with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute, possession of LSD with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone.
Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section along with members of the Berwick Police Department and detectives of the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division conducted a search warrant at a home on Burchfield Lane and located methamphetamine, Subutex, Xanax, and Adderall pills, LSD, and marijuana inside.
Detectives also found glass pipes used to smoke methamphetamine and a digital scale in Leftwich’s purse. The search warrant and investigation was conducted within 2,000 feet of a church and school. Leftwich was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Christina L. Pitre, 37, of Driskill Drive in Berwick, was arrested at 12:39 a.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of probation.
A deputy assisting a Berwick police officer with a traffic stop on La. 182 spoke with a passenger, Pitre, and located an active warrant for her arrest. Pitre was jailed with no bail set.
—Quentin Dugar, 26, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:18 a.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
—Tramaine Charles, 30, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:18 a.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of telephone harassment and on a warrant for the charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy assisting a Berwick police officer with a traffic stop on Fifth Street made contact with Dugar and Charles and located the active warrants for their arrests. The deputy transported them to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set for Dugar at $9,802.69. No bail is set for Charles.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Travis Ruffin, 18, of Bernice Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:38 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging him with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and probation violation.
Officers located Ruffin on Brashear Avenue near Sixth Street where he was arrested on police and city court warrants. The police warrant stems from a Jan. 5 incident in which Ruffin allegedly possessed marijuana intended for distribution. Ruffin was jailed.
—Steve Scully, 50, of Main Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Thursday on the charges of improper head lighting and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Sixth Street near Brashear Avenue with improper head lights. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle identified as Scully.
A driver license check revealed that Scully had a suspended driver’s license. Scully was jailed.
—Bradford G. Jones, 38, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 a.m. Friday on the charges of driving under suspension, improper lane usage, no vehicle insurance and expired license plate.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on La. 182 near Justa Street traveling out of its proper lane of travel and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Jones, was found to have a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle did not have state required insurance, and the he license plate on the vehicle was expired. Jones was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Jade Aucoin, 24, of Renwick Boulevard in Berwick, at 3:12 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of methamphetamine. Aucoin was jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
