Campti man charged with battery on officer

A 27-year-old Campti man was charged with battery on a police officer and simple assault after Morgan City police responded to a complaint of someone threatening an employee at a business, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Kevin Dinini, 27, of Campti, was arrested at 3:28 a.m. Sunday on the charges of simple assault, driving under suspension and battery on an officer.
Officers were dispatched to a hotel on La. 182 in regards to someone threatening an employee. Officers observed a person fitting the description of the suspect getting in a vehicle and leaving the parking lot. Morgan City police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of U.S. 90 near Southwest Boulevard in Bayou Vista.
Officers ordered the driver, Dinini, out of the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, Dinini began to resist officers, but he was eventually subdued and jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—David A. Turner, 24, of Houma, at 3:57 p.m. Monday on warrants charging him with failure to pay fine and contempt of court.
Turner was located at the city Clerk of Court office and was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. He was jailed.
—Brad J. Derouen, 24, of Morgan City, at 7:56 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Officers located Derouen in the area of Levee Road and Sixth Street. Derouen was determined to have an active warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. Derouen was jailed.
—Mark A. Eugene, 50, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, at 9:58 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with three counts of failure to appear.
Eugene was transported from the Patterson Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department for outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. He was jailed.
—Angela M. Weber, 47, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, at 1:34 p.m. Saturday on a warrant charging her with failure to pay a fine.
Weber was transported from the Law Enforcement Center in Centerville to the Morgan City Police Department for an outstanding warrant held for the 6th Ward City Court. Weber was jailed.
—Jessica A. Robinson, 44, of Franklin Street in Morgan City, at 6:27 p.m. Saturday on the charge of telephone harassment.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Franklin Street in regards to harassing phone calls. Officers were told that Robinson was constantly calling the victim, Blair said. Robinson was previously ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
Officers located Robinson at her residence. She was jailed and later released on bail.
—Artis Jones, 20, of Birch Street in Morgan City, at 3:09 p.m. Saturday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear.
Officers located Jones in the area of Mount Street and Railroad Avenue. Jones was determined to hold an active warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. Jones was jailed.
—Rodney Williams, 37, of Belanger Street in Morgan City, at 6:59 p.m. Saturday on the charges of following too closely, driving under suspension, speeding and driving while intoxicated third offense.
Officers were dispatched to the area of La. 70 in regards to a reckless driver. A description of the vehicle was given and officers located the vehicle in the area of La. 70 near Veterans Boulevard. Officers conducted a traffic stop and could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Williams’ breath. Williams was the driver. Williams refused a field sobriety test, Blair said.
He also refused a chemical test for intoxication at the Police Department, Blair said. A computer check revealed that Williams had two prior driving while intoxicated convictions, Blair said.
—David D. Brown, 44, of Todd Street in Patterson, at 9 p.m. Saturday on the charges of driving under suspension, no turn signal and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with three counts of failure to appear.
A patrol officer in the area of Federal and Brashear avenues observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Brown, was determined to have a suspended driver’s license and had active warrants for the 16th Judicial District Court. Brown was jailed.
—Gilberto Morgado, 26, of Tupelo Street in Morgan City, at 9:07 p.m. Saturday on the charges of no driver’s license, switched license plates and license plate lights required.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 near Everett Street observed a vehicle with improper lighting.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Morgado, was determined to not have a valid driver’s license, Blair said. Morgado was jailed.
—Roman P. Bagley, 25, of Third Street in Morgan City, at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting.
—James S. Hunter, 54, of Houma, at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on La. 182 in regards to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told that both Bagley and Hunter were fighting outside the business, Blair said. Both were jailed.
—Wayne C. Torres, 51, of Slidell, at 7:09 p.m. Sunday on the charge of misuse of emergency services – 911.
Officers were dispatched to a business on La. 70 in regards to someone calling false complaints into 911. Officers arrived and located Torres. According to reports, Torres was calling 911 trying to get a ride to another city, Blair said. Police learned that Torres made several calls to 911 for different complaints that turned out to be false, Blair said. Torres was jailed.
—Stephen Barbour, 29, of La. 182 in Morgan City, at 10:41 p.m. Sunday on the charges of appearing in public intoxicated and bicycles riding on roadway must be on right side.
Officers were dispatched to the area of La. 182 near Everett Street in regards to a person on a bicycle swerving in and out of traffic.
Officers located the person, identified as Barbour, on Everett Street. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Barbour’s breath and he was unable to maintain his balance while talking to officers, Blair said. Barbour was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—John Alcina Jr., 30, of the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Patterson, at 7:59 a.m. Monday on three warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference. A deputy received information regarding Alcina’s whereabouts and located him at a business on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista. Bail is set at $300,000.
—Michael Carrington, 34, of the 100 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, at 2:24 a.m. today on the charge of domestic abuse battery strangulation.
—Karen Heilman, 41, of the 100 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, at 2:24 a.m. today on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
A deputy was dispatched to a report of a possible domestic disturbance at a residence on Southeast Boulevard.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Carrington and Heilman and learned that the two suspects had been drinking alcohol when they began arguing with one another, Hebert said.
The verbal altercation then escalated into a physical encounter with both suspects committing a battery upon each other, Hebert said. Carrington and Heilman were both jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Thomas Jones, 56, of St. Clair Street in Morgan City, at 5:36 p.m. Monday on the charges of expired license plate, switched license plate, driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and open container. Jones was released on bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
