Detectives investigating second illegal discharge of firearm in Amelia

Detectives are investigating the second illegal discharge of a firearm complaint in a week in Amelia after responding to a report of a shooting Monday, according to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office news release.
At 2:26 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a complaint of several men fighting on Friendship Alley in Amelia. As deputies arrived at the location, the sheriff’s office received a second call reporting a shooting on Friendship Alley, the release said. Detectives also responded and processed evidence of a gun being fired, the release said. No injuries were reported, the release said. Deputies and detectives detained several people in the area pending further investigation into the complaints.
One of those people was found to have active parish and city court warrants and was placed under arrest. The illegal discharge of a firearm remains under investigation. While conducting this investigation, a deputy located several improperly kenneled pit bull breed and pit bull mixed breed dogs behind a residence in the 100 block of Friendship Alley. A total of nine dogs were turned over to the St. Mary Parish Animal Control Officer. The St. Mary Parish Humane Society was contacted and the incident remains under investigation, the release said.
At 11:32 p.m. Jan. 25, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of gunfire being heard in Amelia in the area of Lake Palourde Road and Friendship Alley. Investigators didn't find any shell casings, injuries or damages in the area that point to evidence of gunfire, Landry said.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating that Jan. 25 case as an illegal discharge of a firearm, she said.
