Detectives make arrest in cold case homicide from 2002

Following a two-year cold case homicide investigation, Louisiana State Police detectives have arrested a Breaux Bridge man and charged him with second-degree murder, police reported in a news release.
In August of 2012, the St. Martin Parish District Attorney’s Office contacted Louisiana State Police
and requested their assistance with a cold case homicide which occurred in 2002, the news release stated. During the investigation, detectives were able to obtain information leading them to investigate 36-year-old Marshall Alexander Jr. of Breaux Bridge, police stated.
Based on the investigation, detectives uncovered information indicating that on March 28, 2002, Alexander shot and killed Scott Latiolais in a field in St. Martin Parish, the news release said.
On Friday, the case was presented by the St. Martin Parish District Attorney’s Office to a St. Martin Parish Grand Jury, which returned an indictment for second-degree murder.
On Tuesday, troopers arrested Alexander at a residence in Breaux Bridge. Alexander was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail without incident.
