Domestic abuse, theft suspect caught

A 31-year-old Bayou Vista man was booked Wednesday on domestic abuse battery and theft warrants after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives caught him hiding behind a TV cabinet, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Antonio Collins Jr., 31, of the 100 block of Pluto Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:18 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of resisting an officer and on a warrant for domestic abuse battery and theft. The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of domestic abuse.
The deputy dispatched to a home in Bayou Vista gathered evidence that Collins struck a female victim multiple times during an argument and then left the area with the victim’s cell phone. Narcotics detectives patrolling Bayou Vista spotted Collins outside of his home.
Detectives exited their vehicle, identified themselves as law enforcement officers and ordered Collins to stop. Collins saw the detectives and retreated into the home. Detectives entered into the home and located Collins hiding behind a TV cabinet. Collins was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 45 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jose Flores, 56, of the 400 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for simple battery. The warrant was issued April 28 following a deputy’s investigation into a report of a battery at a home in Bayou Vista. The deputy found evidence that Flores grabbed a female victim by her arm and threw her to the floor. A deputy located Flores at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse on the warrant. Flores was released on $500 bail.
—Barry L. Jones, 29, of the 100 block of Cane Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:18 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, improper lane usage, driver must be licensed and possession of Subutex.
Narcotics division detectives observed a vehicle driving in the middle of the roadway on La. 182 in Ber-wick and conducted a traffic stop. Detectives made contact with Jones and found that he was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
While speaking with Jones, detectives received consent to search his person. During the search, detectives observed a clear plastic baggie fall from Jones’ pant leg. The bag contained marijuana, four rocks of crack cocaine, and a Subutex pill.
Continuing the investigation, the detectives also collected evidence that Jones intended to sell the illegal drugs. Jones was jailed with no bail set.
—Keven Pierre, 19, of the 1400 block of Hickory Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of Schedule I drugs. Pierre turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. Pierre was jailed with no bail set.
—George Favors III, 48, of the 1600 block of Cherry Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:29 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. A deputy patrolling Siracusa observed a vehicle circling the area multiple times.
The deputy found that the vehicle belonged to Favors who was wanted on an active warrant. The deputy stopped the driver, identified as Favors, at a business on La. 182 in Morgan City. Favors was jailed with bail set at $1,181.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Victor K. Floyd, 40, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of DWI second offense, driving under suspension, disturbing the peace, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and speeding 62 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Officers responded to an apartment complex on La. 182 in regard to a call of an intoxicated subject causing a disturbance. Before officers arrived, the caller stated that the intoxicated subject got into a vehicle, began spinning the tires in the parking lot and then left the area traveling on La. 182.
Responding officers got a description of the vehicle, and observed a vehicle matching the description traveling at a high rate of speed on La. 182. The officer clocked the vehicle at 62 mph in a 35 mph speed zone and made a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Floyd, who had a suspended driver’s license.
During the investigation, officers suspected Floyd to have been drinking and believed that Floyd may be intoxicated. An assisting officer went to the apartment complex and spoke with several witnesses to the incident. Witnesses stated that Floyd, who was intoxicated, was at the complex causing a disturbance and attempting to fight with several people in the area.
Floyd then got into a vehicle and left the area spinning the tires and driving in a reckless manner, Blair said. Floyd was transported to the police department and re-fused further chemical testing for intoxication. Floyd was jailed.
—Richard S. Ford, 59, of Utah Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
—Toreum S. Poole, 31, of Utah Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
Officers responded to the Morgan City Courtroom in regard to a disturbance. The officers entered the court-room where they observed Ford and Poole, who were awaiting the start of court proceedings, engaged in a physical altercation. Ford and Poole were eventually separated after disobeying several commands from the officers to stop. Both Ford and Poole were jailed.
—Vincent A. Thomas Jr., 22, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of synthetic cannabinoids and on warrants charging him with contempt of court and probation violation.
An officer located Thomas on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and arrested Thomas on a warrant. Thomas was jailed.
—Juan R. Torres Jr., 27, of Stacy Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:22 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana and on warrants charging him with failure to pay fines and probation violation.
Torres came into the Morgan City Police Department and turned himself in on the warrants. Torres was jailed.
—Ronda K. Baines, 48, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging her with contempt of court. Officers located Baines at a home on Cypress Street and Baines was arrested. Baines was jailed.
—Brent Green, 21, of Cy-press Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of seat belt violation and no child restraint and on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
A patrolling officer ob-served a vehicle traveling in the area of Elm Street near Pine Street when the officer noticed that the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The officer stopped the vehicle and the driver was identified as Green.
The officer saw a child in-side the vehicle that was not in a proper child restraint. A warrants checked revealed that Green had an active arrest warrant. Green was jailed.
—Robin Carbins, 48, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of entering or remaining where forbidden
An officer responded to a business on La. 182 in regard to a subject inside the business that had been banned. The officer arrived and was told by a business employee that Carbins went into the business and had been removed and banned from the property from a previous incident.
Officers located Carbins near the business when Carbins told the officer he had gone into the business, Blair said. Carbins was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Desirae Eastling, 35, of Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of theft by shoplifting, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail is set at $4,500.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
