Franklin man accused of attempting to take table saw in Morgan City burglary

A Franklin man was jailed for burglary after he attempted to take a table saw from a Morgan City residence, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Corey Chapman, 49, of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. Thursday for simple burglary and resisting an officer.
Officers were dispatched to an Oak Street residence regarding Chapman who had entered the property without permission. Officers observed Chapman run from the residence and enter into a rear building, Banks said.
Chapman then attempted to remove a table saw through the rear window of the building. Chapman was detained, became combative and had to be restrained, the chief said. According to the victim, Chapman had no permission or right to enter the property or remove items from the building, Banks said. He was jailed.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Dantrell I. Garrett Jr., 25, of Victor II Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:28 a.m. Thursday for felony possession of marijuana fourth offense and speeding 58 mph in 45 mph zone.
—Melanie A. Francis, 29, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:28 a.m. Thursday for possession of marijuana and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear for issuing worthless checks.
An officer observed a speeding vehicle traveling on La. 182. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Garrett. Garrett was in the company of Francis. Officers discovered that Garrett and Francis were in possession of marijuana, a controlled substance. Officers also determined that the passenger, Francis, was wanted on an outstanding warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. Both were jailed.
—Jonathan L. Booth, 36, of Baton Rouge, was arrested at 10:18 a.m. Thursday for attempted false acquisition of a controlled dangerous substance.
Officers were dispatched to a pharmacy after employees became suspicious of a person attempting to acquire Roxicodone, with a questionable prescription. Officers located Booth and determined that Booth was attempting to acquire the drug using a fraudulent prescription. He was jailed.
—Louis A. Bourque, 28, of Port Fourchon, was arrested at 3:05 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for violation of a protective order and a warrant for telephone harassment.
Bourque was located at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville and transported to the Morgan City Jail.
—Stephen Bias, 49, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:28 a.m. today for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers patrolling the area of Egle Street in Morgan City during the early morning hours came into contact with Bias. Bias was found to be in possession of a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics and was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 47 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jerrence Ford, 26, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 2:31 p.m. Thursday on warrants for four counts distribution of cocaine. A narcotics division detective was notified by Berwick Police that Ford was located on the warrants. The warrants are the result of an investigation in which Ford sold crack cocaine to undercover detectives. Ford was jailed with no bail set.
—Louis Bourque, 28, of the 2000 block of Second Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. Thursday on a Justice of the Peace warrant for criminal damage to property and on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of violation of a protective order, remaining where forbidden and criminal trespassing. Bourque turned himself in. No bail is set.
—Michele C. Jackson, 44, of the 1500 block of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. Thursday for theft.
—Phi Hoang Lam Duval, 30, of the 400 block of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:59 p.m. Thursday for theft.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned from store personnel that Jackson and Duval were seen concealing items on their persons before attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. Both Jackson and Duval were released on summonses to appear in court on Sept. 3.
—Sheneka M. Johnlouis, 28, of the 100 block of Bonnie Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Thursday for theft.
—Kiara S. Calloway, 25, of the 100 block of Bonnie Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Thursday for theft.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Both women were released on summonses to appear in court on Sept. 3.
—A juvenile male, 15, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:53 p.m. Thursday for theft and unauthorized use of an access card. A deputy investigating a complaint of theft learned that the juvenile stole an iPod and credit card number from two victims and used the credit card to purchase music and movies on the device. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Martina N. Span, 30, of the 100 block of Saint Joseph Street in Franklin, was arrested at 6:42 p.m. Thursday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Span was released on a summons to appear in court on Sept. 3.
—Diondre Short, 39, of the 300 block of Oriole Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:34 a.m. today on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on the charges of speeding and operating a vehicle without a license. He was also charged on a warrant from Houma police for contempt of court. A deputy made contact with Short during a traffic stop on La. 182 in Morgan City and learned of the warrant for his arrest. Short was jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Demetrius Sylvester, 37, of the 500 block of Wise Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. today for disturbing the peace by fighting and on a traffic warrant. Sylvester was jailed on $775 bail.
—Deborah Brown, 37, of the 400 block of Robinson Street in Franklin, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. today for disturbing the peace by fighting. Brown was released on $388 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Justin Scarbrough, 21, of the 1200 block of Delmar Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Thursday for possession of drug paraphernalia second offense. Scarbrough was jailed.
St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronnie Theriot reported the following arrest:
—Daniel Guidry, 52, of the 2000 block of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested operating a vehicle while intoxicated, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation of a watercraft and intentional littering prohibited.
