Inmate found dead at St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office reported an inmate death at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville in a news release issued Saturday.
“This morning, at St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, a jailer conducting a count in a dorm located an unresponsive inmate in a bunk,” the news release stated.
Medical staff responded immediately and Acadian Ambulance was called to the location, the news release stated.
Despite their efforts, the male inmate was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish coroner at 8 a.m., the news release stated.
Foul play is not suspected, the news release stated.
“As per St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office procedure, an investigation is underway pending the outcome of the coroner’s autopsy report,” the news release stated. “The deceased’s identity is being withheld at this time pending full notification of the family.”
