Investigators find no gunfire evidence after reports in Amelia

Staff Report

Detectives have found no evidence of gunfire in Amelia after several people in the area reported hearing gunshots late Monday night, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
At 11:32 p.m. Monday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of gunfire being heard in Amelia in the area of Lake Palourde Road and Friendship Alley.
Deputies in the area immediately responded to the location and began an investigation.
Investigators haven’t found any shell casings, injuries or damages in the area that point to evidence of gunfire, Landry said.
“That’s not saying that we don’t believe the people out there heard gunfire,” Landry said.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the case as an illegal discharge of a firearm, she said.
