Jeanerette man charged with attempted murder

A 22-year-old Jeanerette man was arrested Wednesday on an attempted murder charge after he fired several shots at a woman in Charenton, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Terrance J. Derouen, 22, of the 10300 block of Old Jeanerette Road in Jeanerette, was arrested at 7:07 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for attempted second degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a complaint of gunfire heard in the Charenton area and a complaint of a residence on Joe White Road being damaged. Detectives also responded to the scene. Investigators gathered evidence indicating that Derouen approached a mobile home with a handgun while screaming and cursing.
Derouen then fired several rounds in the direction of a female victim, which struck and damaged the residence. Derouen then used the weapon to strike the victim in the head. After the encounter, Derouen left the area Detectives obtained a warrant for Derouen’s arrest.
Derouen turned himself in at the Baldwin Police Department. Derouen was booked into parish jail with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 41 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Morgan A. Lavergne, 21, of the 900 block of Second Street in Franklin, at 11:07 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging her with second-degree battery.
A deputy received a call from the Patterson Police Department regarding a person who had an active sheriff’s office arrest warrant. A deputy located Lavergne at the Patterson Police Department and transported her to the parish jail. Lavergne was released on $1,500 bail.
—Jarvis Preston, 29, of the 1800 block of Joan Drive in Franklin, at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of no insurance, expired license plate, stop sign violation, and no turn signal.
A bondsman turned Preston in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Preston was later released on $5,000 bail.
—Valerie Navy, 27, of the 200 block of Verdun Lane in Verdunville, at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods.
Navy was brought to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center by a bondsman on the warrant. No bail is set.
—Brent J. Bridges, 30, of the 100 block of Vaughn Lane in Franklin, at 3:12 a.m. today for failure to signal 100 feet prior to an intersection and possession of open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle decelerate quickly and abruptly make a turn without properly signaling. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Bridges. While speaking with him, the deputy observed an open bottle of beer inside the vehicle. Following the investigation, Bridges was released on a summons to appear in court March 30.
—Ashlee Jimenez, 33, of the 900 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In October 2015, detectives made contact with Jimenez during an investigation into a separate complaint and located marijuana in Jimenez’s home. A warrant was issued for her arrest. Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office located Jimenez at her home. She was released on a summons to appear in court March 30.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—John C. LaCoste, 31, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, at 3:26 p.m. Wednesday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear for criminal neglect of family.
LaCoste was located at a residence on Brashear Avenue and arrested by officers in regards to an active arrest warrant held by the 16th Judicial District Court. LaCoste was jailed.
—Lydia J. Cruz, 30, of Pierre Part, at 8:56 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of driving under suspension, improper lane usage and no child restraint
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on La. 70 crossing the lane of travel and conducted a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Cruz. During the stop, the officer observed a small child inside the vehicle that was not in a proper child restraint. A driver’s license check revealed that Cruz had a suspended driver’s license. Cruz was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
