Man charged for Amelia Circle K robbery

A 46-year-old Paradis man was booked into the parish jail Tuesday for a March 2015 robbery at an Amelia convenience store, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Shawn S. Himel, 46, of the 100 block of Wisner Street in Paradis, was arrested on a warrant charging him with simple robbery.
The warrants are based on a March 17, 2015, report of a robbery. At 3:08 a.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call of a robbery at the Circle K convenience store on La. 182 in Amelia.
Upon arrival, deputies gathered a description of the suspect and began a search of the area, but did not locate the suspect. During the investigation, video surveillance of the crime as obtained. On it, the suspect is seen entering the store just prior to 3 a.m.
The suspect, who did not appear to be armed, approached the counter and demanded money from the store clerk. Fearing that the suspect would become violent, the victim turned over the cash in the register. The suspect then left the store.
After releasing pictures of video surveillance footage of the crime, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received multiple tips regarding the identity of the suspect.
Upon investigating one of the tips, the detective assigned to the case identified Himel as the suspect who approached the counter and demanded money from the store clerk. A warrant on the charge of simple robbery was obtained for Himel’s arrest March 26, 2015. At that time, Himel was located at the St. Charles Parish jail where he was incarcerated on unrelated charges.
On Tuesday, Himel was transported from that facility to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and booked at 10:38 a.m. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 35 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ethan Mensman, 18, of the 100 block of Riverview Drive in Patterson, at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass.
On Monday, a deputy received information regarding a criminal damage to property complaint from the Patterson Police Department. During the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Mensman was in a vehicle that drove into a gate on private property off Zenor Road in Patterson causing damage to the structure.
While working a separate complaint, a deputy made contact with Mensman and made the arrest on the warrant. Mensman was booked into parish jail with no bail set. The case remains under investigation at this time.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Stacey L. Grubb, 35, of Shady Grove in Morgan City, at 2 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for contempt of court (violating conditions of bond).
Grubb was arrested in the Morgan City Court in regards to an active warrant. Grubb was booked into the Morgan City jail.
—Zachary M. Crappell, 22, of North First Street in Morgan City, at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of contempt of court (failure to complete jail sentence).
Crappell was arrested in the Morgan City Court in regards to an active warrant. Crappell was booked into the Morgan City jail.
—Devante D. Frank, 24, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of improper turning, improper lane usage and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn from Onstead Street onto Federal Avenue. As the vehicle traveled on Federal Avenue, police observed the vehicle crossing into the opposing lane of traffic and stopped the vehicle. The driver, identified as Frank, had a suspended driver’s license. Frank was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
