Man charged with unauthorized use of vehicle
A 25-year-old Berwick man was arrested in Morgan City unauthorized use of vehicle after police responded to a report of someone possibly involved in illegal drug activity, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Jeffery B. Lodrigue 25, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Franklin and Sixth streets in regard to an individual in a vehicle possibly involved in illegal drug activity. A description of the vehicle was given out and officers located the vehicle on Franklin St. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Lodrigue.
Lodrigue gave officers consent to search the vehicle and officers located no illegal narcotics, Blair said. The owner of the vehicle was located and stated that Lodrigue did not have permission to use the vehicle, and Lodrigue was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Lionel Jones Jr. 28, of Mount Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of driving under suspension, headlights required, no insurance, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.
A patrol officer in the area of David Drive and La. 70 observed a vehicle with improper lighting. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Jones.
Jones was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. A computer check revealed that Jones’ driver’s license was under suspension. Jones also held an active warrant for the 16th Judicial District Court. Jones was jailed.
—Billie Driskill, 40, of Park Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:04 a.m. Thursday on warrants for failure to appear on two counts of domestic violence and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace.
Officers located Driskill on Ditch Avenue. Driskill was found to have active warrants for city court. Driskill was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 30 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Justin D. Price, 27, of the 500 block of Gen. MacArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:09 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of no motor vehicle insurance, driving under suspension, proper vehicle equipment required, no turn signal, no seatbelt, expired motor vehicle inspection and expired license plate.
A deputy responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Ricohoc. During the investigation, the deputy found that one of the drivers, identified as Price, was operating the vehicle without insurance and with a suspended license.
The deputy also observed multiple motor vehicle violations and collected evidence that Price failed to properly signal a turn, Hebert said. Price was released on a summons to appear in court Feb. 3, 2017.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
