The man police wanted to question as a witness to the Tuesday night shooting of James Kenner was arrested on a probation violation Wednesday night, according to Morgan City police spokesman Capt. James Blair.
Reuben Evans Jr., 26, of Morgan City, contacted detectives after learning he was wanted for questioning in the Cherry Street shooting, Blair said.
Evans was interviewed at the Morgan City Police Department and arrested on outstanding warrants for failure to comply with conditions of probation, Blair said.
The shooting victim, James Anthony Kenner of Cherry Street, remained in guarded condition in a New Orleans hospital Wednesday afternoon, Blair said.
Morgan City police responded to gunshots in the 900 block of Cherry Street at 11:32 p.m. Tuesday.
Kenner, 27, was found lying in the front yard of an apartment complex with a gunshot wound to the head.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots prior to officers’ arrival, Blair said.
Blair said detectives continue to gather information on the incident, but declined to release the names of persons of interest.
“We’re concerned that if we release anything further we’re going to jeopardize a possible arrest in the case,” Blair said.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Morgan City Police Department at 985-384-2310.
