Morgan City man accused of attacking woman
A 50-year-old Morgan City man was charged Friday in connection with a Nov. 24 incident during which he is accused of repeatedly striking a woman, Morgan City Police Spokesman Capt. James Blair said.
—Tyrone F. Thomas, 50, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:51 p.m. Friday on warrants for simple battery and second degree battery.
The warrants stem from an investigation that began Nov. 24 accusing Thomas of attacking a woman and striking her repeatedly requiring medical attention, Blair said. Thomas was jailed
Morgan City Police reported the following arrests:
—Demarcus T. Skipper, 19, of Hickory Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:29 a.m. Friday on a probation violation and two counts for failure to pay a probation fee. Skipper was jailed.
—William B. Harrison, 60, of Wise Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:36 p.m. Friday on warrants for failure to pay a fine for a stop sign violation, failure to pay a fine for contempt of court and failure to appear for contempt of court. He was located in Berwick and jailed in Morgan City.
—Benjamin J. Blackman, 24, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:20 a.m. Saturday for obstruction of public passages, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
Officers received a complaint on Keith Street regarding a vehicle blocking the roadway. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with the engine running, in gear with Blackman asleep at the wheel, Blair said. Officers awakened Blackman, who driving with a suspended driver’s license. Upon being transported to jail, he was found to have a small amount of marijuana on him, Blair said.
—Esteben Sanchez, 30, of Willard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:36 a.m. Sunday for simple battery.
Officers received a call reporting a fight during which Sanchez was accused of striking another person, Blair said.
—Marco R. Ortiz, 17, of Halsey Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. today for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding 57 mph in a 45 mph zone, possession of alcohol beverage in a motor vehicle and possession of alcohol by person under age 21.
An officer observed a speeding vehicle on La. 182, Blair said. Ortiz failed a field sobriety test and registered .091 grams-percent blood alcohol content, Blair said. Ortiz was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 72 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Samantha Landry, 27, of the 4300 block of La. 14 in New Iberia, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. Friday on a warrant for shoplifting. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 90 in the Bayou Vista area.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Landry, and learned of the active warrant for her arrest. The warrant for shoplifting stems from a complaint received in November. Deputies learned that Landry had stolen merchandise from a business in Bayou Vista. Landry was jailed and later released on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
—Paul Daigle, 36, of the 100 block of 3B’s Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. Saturday for domestic abuse battery. A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Daigle and a female victim were involved in an argument when Daigle struck the female in the face, Hebert said. Daigle was jailed with no bail set.
—Roger Grow, 47, of the 300 block of Iowa Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:07 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. A deputy assigned to the Bayou Vista area located Grow at a business and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Grow was jailed with bail set at $24,757.25.
—John Costales, 30, of the 100 block of First Street in Boutte, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Sunday for hit and run and driving while intoxicated. A deputy patrolling the Patterson area responded to a report of a reckless driver on U.S. 90. During the investigation, the deputy found Costales to be intoxicated and learned that he had struck a guardrail while driving. Costales was jailed and later released on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
—Breiana Gant, 22, of the 300 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 11:37 p.m. Sunday for a warrant on the charge of shoplifting. Gant turned herself in to the parish jail after learning of the active warrant for her arrest. Gant was jailed and later released on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Melvin Valladaras, 29, of Ohio Street, was arrested at 1:37 a.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driver must be licensed. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Pedro Meza, 34, of Solar Trailer Park in Thibodaux, was arrested at 6:57 p.m. Sunday for driver must be licensed and open container. Meza was released on $320 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Vanessa M. Calais, 43, of the 1500 block of Live Oak Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:13 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear for theft under $500. Calais was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
