Morgan City man booked on domestic abuse, drug charges

A 24-year-old Morgan City man was caught on domestic abuse and drug charges after police discovered he battered a woman in front of a child, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Demarcus S. Roy, 24, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:59 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse child-endangerment, possession of Suboxone and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
Officers responded to a home on Mallard Street in regard to a reported disturbance. Police arrived and located a woman who appeared to have been the victim of a battery. The officers were told that the woman and Roy were involved in an argument when Roy committed a battery on the woman in the presence of a 3-year-old boy.
The woman ran to a neighbor’s home to contact police when Roy fled the area on foot. A description was provided when officers located Roy in the area moments later.
Investigation found evidence of the alleged battery during an investigation. Roy was arrested and searched. Officers located suspected marijuana which was believed to be packaged for distribution along with suspected Suboxone. The location of the incidence was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Roy was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Melissa Evans, 47, of Ninth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of criminal damage to coin-operated devices.
A deputy investigating a report of a suspicious person at a business in Bayou Vista collected video evidence of Evans tampering with an arcade game. The deputy spoke with Evans at her residence and subsequently transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Evans was released on a summons to appear in court May 10.
—Steven Morris, 30, of Vista Village Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of violation of a protective order. Morris turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Morris was released on $2,500 bail.
—Cole Fruge, 25, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of domestic abuse battery and resisting an officer.
—Miranda Topham, 35, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in Bayou Vista, deputies spoke with Fruge and Topham. Through investigation, deputies learned that the two people engaged in a fight during an argument.
Fruge and Topham were taken into custody. During Fruge’s arrest, he repeatedly pulled away from deputies. Both suspects were jailed with no bail set.
—Justin Breaux, 32, of Laura Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to yield, and possession of open alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.
Breaux failed to yield, pulling onto La. 182 in front of a deputy in Patterson. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Breaux. While speaking with him, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and observed an open bottle of beer in a cup holder.
Breaux refused to conduct a field sobriety test. He later registered 0.212 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. He was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Breaux was released after posting $3,250 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Jesse Landry, 27, of Adrian Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, improper lane usage and expired driver’s license. Landry was awaiting bail to be set.
—Bryan Bruno, 42, of Landry Street in Loreauville, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Bruno posted $3,500 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Richard Cormier, 29, of Catherine Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of aggravated battery involving domestic abuse. Cormier was jailed.
