Morgan City man faces drug, traffic charges

A 58-year-old Morgan City man was arrested on drug and traffic charges in Assumption Parish on Tuesday.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack identified the arrested man as Gary D. Martin, 58, of the 1200 block of Highway 662.
Assumption Parish sheriff’s narcotics deputies stopped Martin on Honey Lane as he was driving a white Ford Focus, Waguespack said.
A search of the vehicle discovered about 4.2 grams of methamphetamines (crystal meth), several hits of heroin and one Xanax pill, Waguespack said.
Martin also gave consent to a search of his residence and two shotguns were located, he said.
Martin is a convicted felon and was out on bond for Assumption and St. Mary parishes, Waguespack said.
Martin was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on the following charges: failure to signal, two brake lights required, possession with intent to district methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Martin’s bail was set at $201,543 and he remains in custody, he said.
