Morgan City woman accused of committing battery, damaging cell phone

A 30-year-old Morgan City woman faces battery and criminal damage to property charges after allegedly dam-aging someone’s cell phone and physically attacking the victim, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Kanavia D. Jones, 30, of Birch Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of simple battery and simple criminal damage to property.
An officer responded to a local business on Victor II Boulevard in regard to a report of a disturbance. The officer made contact with a victim who had signs of a battery and a witness to the incident. Witnesses said Jones, who had left the area before the officer’s arrival, had approached the victim, who was sitting inside of a parked vehicle, Blair said.
Jones allegedly took a cellphone from the victim throwing it to the ground damaging the phone. Jones was alleged to have then committed a battery on the victim at which time Jones got into a vehicle and fled the scene. Officers located Jones moments later at an address on Birch Street. Jones was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Brandon Kent, 29, of Short Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of obscured windshield, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana third offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
—Kenneth R. Morris, 18, of Robin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, distribution of marijuana and violation of uniform controlled dangerous sub-stance laws
A patrolling officer ob-served a vehicle in the area of Marguerite Street at Sixth Street with an obscured windshield and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Kent and the passenger as Morris. Kent had a suspended driver’s license. Both Kent and Morris’ behavior made officers suspicious that they may be involved in illegal drug activity.
Officers searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Morris was also alleged to have given Kent some of the suspected marijuana. The location of the incident was within the area of a local school. Both Kent and Morris were jailed.
—David A. Dahl, 50, of Pine Acres in Covington, was arrested at 4:29 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of appearing in an intoxicated condition.
An officer responded to a hotel on Roderick Street in regard to an intoxicated subject in front of the business disturbing customers. The officer located Dahl, who matched the description, in front of the business. Dahl appeared to be intoxicated. Dahl was jailed.
—Harold Turner, 66, of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:21 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Turner was located by officers at a residence on Fourth Street and arrested on an active warrant held by the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court. Turner was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Lonnie R. Baker Jr., 24, of the 300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Franklin, was arrested at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of no driver’s license, impeding the flow of traffic, and possession of marijuana.
—Hosey M. Provost Jr., 32, of the 100 block of Baker Road in Franklin, was arrested at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice.
—Joantress Warner, 21, of the 600 block of 11th Street in Franklin, was arrested at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Narcotics detectives patrolling the Patterson area observed a vehicle traveling in the left lane of U.S. 90 at a slower rate of speed than other vehicles on the roadway. Detectives conducted a traffic stop after the driver failed to pull to the right lane to yield to other traffic, Hebert said.
As detectives approached the vehicle, they observed a passenger, later identified as Provost, attempt to hide a bag of marijuana between the seat and console of the vehicle. Detectives also made contact with a third occupant in the vehicle, identified as Warner.
During the investigation, detectives retrieved the marijuana and also discovered that Baker was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Baker and Warner were released on summonses to appear in court May 4. Provost was jailed with no bail set.
—Aaron L. Comeaux, 30, of the 200 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:11 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of tail lights required and possession of Schedule II methamphetamine. Narcotics detectives patrolling Bayou Vista ob-served a vehicle with a brake light that was not illuminated and conducted a traffic stop.
Detectives made contact with the driver, Comeaux. During the traffic stop investigation, K-9 Buddy showed an odor response indicating that there was an illegal substance inside the vehicle. Detectives searched the car and located a container with methamphetamine inside.
During a search of Comeaux, detectives located additional methamphetamine in his wallet. Comeaux was jailed with bail set at $2,250.
—Kristy Theriot, 45, of the 1800 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of Schedule IV clonazepam. A detective with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle fail to properly signal a turn three times and conducted a traffic stop on Saturn Road.
The detective made contact with the driver, Theriot, and advised her of the reason for the stop. While speaking with Theriot, the detectives received consent to search and located several Clonazepam pills in her purse.
Theriot could not provide a prescription for the drug. Theriot admitted to the detective that she got the pills “off the street.” She was booked and released on $1,000 bail.
—Keith Tillman, 19, of the 100 block of Patty Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:13 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods. A deputy responded to a location on La. 70 where a U.S. Coast Guard officer detained Tillman. The deputy transported Tillman to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
