Patterson man charged with cruelty to infant

A 20-year-old Patterson man has been charged with cruelty to a 2-month-old girl after authorities discovered the infant had suffered non-accidental head trauma, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
The arrest stems from a Dec. 18 incident at a home in Patterson where the infant was found unresponsive.
—Blake Chaisson, 20, of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of second-degree cruelty to juveniles.
On the evening of Dec. 18, a deputy responded to a 911 call of a medical emergency involving a non-responsive 2- month-old infant at a home in Patterson. The baby girl was transported to a local hospital and then taken to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans for further treatment.
The deputy conducting a follow-up investigation to the incident learned from medical staff that the infant sustained non-accidental head trauma. A detective conducted a criminal investigation. The detective collected evidence that Chaisson was responsible for the child prior to the medical emergency.
Based on the medical evaluation and other evidence that was collected, the detective obtained a warrant for Chaisson’s arrest. After learning of the warrant, Chaisson turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Chaisson was transported to the parish jail for booking. A judge set Chaisson’s bail at $100,000. Chaisson was released after posting a $100,000 property bail.
Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Robin Tipton, 33, of North Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of theft of goods.
A deputy was dispatched to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy made contact with the suspect, Tipton, at one of the store’s exits. During the investigation, the deputy learned from store personnel that Tipton was seen concealing items in her purse. The deputy spoke with Tipton, received consent to search her purse and located over $450 in stolen items. Tipton was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Walter Howard, 30, of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday for careless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, and possession of Schedule I drugs.
A deputy was dispatched to La. 182 near Teche Road in reference to a vehicle that had driven off the roadway. The deputy located a pick-up truck in a sugarcane field, made contact with the driver, and identified him as Howard.
The deputy located a folded-up piece of paper containing a green leafy substance suspected of being marijuana. While speaking with Howard, he allegedly admitted to the deputy that the illegal drug was his. The deputy also found that Howard was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
Howard was booked into parish jailed and later released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Clinton B. Williams, 52, of Rizzo Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:10 a.m. Thursday on the charges of littering, violation of parish outdoor burning ordinance and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended license and no seatbelt.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a subject burning items at Wilson’s Boat Launch in Patterson. The deputy spoke with the subject, identified as Williams, and found that he was burning copper wire and other materials on the property. Williams was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Ricky Ledet Jr., 35, of West Side Boulevard in Houma, was arrested at 7:50 a.m. charge of possession of stolen property over $1,500, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, simple escape and on a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with simple burglary.
The Morgan City Police Department received information that an individual at a hotel on La. 182 was in possession of stolen vehicle. Officers arrived and made contact with the individual identified as Ledet in one of the hotel rooms. Ledet allegedly admitted to officers that he had stolen a vehicle out of the Schriever area.
Officers located the vehicle and ran a computer check, which revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen. The vehicle was searched and a firearm was located inside.
Ledet knew of the firearm in the vehicle. Officers also located suspected marijuana in Ledet’s possession. Investigators determined that Ledet was wanted on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
After placing Ledet under arrest, he pulled away from the officer and began to flee on foot. Ledet was apprehended a short time later. Ledet was jailed.
—Jeremie M. Paul, 26, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested 4 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging him with probation violation, contempt of court and failure to pay probation fee.
Paul was transported from the Iberia Parish jail to the Morgan City Police Department on warrants for the 6th Ward City Court. Paul was jailed.
—Peter Parish, 66, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of hit and run and driving under suspension.
Officers responded to the area of Seventh and Greenwood streets in regard to a vehicle crash. Police received information that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was fleeing the area.
—Brittany Johnson, 26, of Fox Glove Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:02 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging her with simple battery.
Johnson turned herself in to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant, which stems from an incident in October 2016 where Johnson allegedly committed a battery on another person. Johnson was jailed.
—Sean P. Patterson Jr., 24, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:47 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of Percocet, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance-drug free zone.
—Carl Singleton, 20, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:47 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of improper lane usage, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone.
Narcotics division detectives saw a vehicle, cross the center line several times on Marguerite Street near Victor II Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Singleton was asked to produce a valid driver’s license.
While talking the driver, the officer noticed an item used to grind illegal narcotics on the floor of the vehicle. Reports indicate that Singleton stated the item was from him. The passenger in the vehicle, Patterson, was asked to exit the vehicle. Officers located pills in Patterson’s possession identified as Percocet. Both Singleton and Patterson were jailed.
—Tyrel A. Whitehead, 19, of Lawrence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:16 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for failure to pay fines and failure to pay probation fees.
Whitehead was located on Fourth Street. Whitehead was determined to have arrest warrant for City Court. Whitehead was jailed.
—Nicholas P. Kapp, 22, of Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 a.m. Thursday on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with failure to appear.
Officers located Kapp in the area of Federal and Brashear avenues. Kapp was determined to have an arrest warrant for the 16th Judicial District Court. Kapp was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Jacob Alcina, 28, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Patterson, was arrested at 4:14 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with unauthorized entry of a movable and criminal mischief. Alcina was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Tina Stelly, 48, of Patterson, was arrested 9:47 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Stelly was jailed with no bail set yet.
