Patterson police arrested Alvin Louis, 32, of Williams Street in Patterson, on Thursday afternoon and charged him with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with a Wednesday night shooting that sent two men to the hospital.
Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said they are looking for Johnell Dyer, 36, also of Patterson, who LaSalle said will be arrested for involvement in the crime.
Both men have extensive criminal histories, LaSalle said. He added that the shooting was drug related.
Eric C. Haney, 29, was shot Wednesday night shortly before midnight and taken by Acadian Ambulance to Teche Regional Medical Center with injuries to his left shoulder and pelvis, LaSalle said.
LaSalle said at the time of the shooting the passenger in the vehicle, Brent Charles, 32, of Morgan City, told officers and emergency personnel with Acadian Ambulance that he was uninjured. During the course of the investigation Charles told police that he was injured and had gone to Teche Regional Hospital where bullet fragments were removed, LaSalle said in a news release.
LaSalle said an officer patrolling Wednesday night on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue heard gunshots and responded to the shooting which occurred at 11:48 p.m. near the intersection of Ellis and Live Oak streets.
“This was absolutely a murder attempt,” LaSalle said
Bullet holes are on the vehicle’s door and back seat window. The back seat window and driver’s window were also knocked out which LaSalle said was caused by two more bullets. At least four rounds, maybe six, were shot he said.
Louis remains in jail with no bail set.
