Police: Armed robbery suspect accused of stealing jewelry

A 23-year-old Morgan City armed robbery suspect was charged this morning in connection with a Sept. 19 incident during which the suspect is accused of having stolen $300 worth of jewelry, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Anthony L. Watson Jr., 23, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:31 a.m. today on a warrant for armed robbery.
Watson was located in the Brownell Homes area. The warrant was a result of an investigation by Morgan City police detectives into a robbery that was reported Sept. 22.
Watson was identified by witnesses as a suspect who robbed someone Sept. 19, in which the victim was robbed of jewelry valued at $300 while the offender was armed with a pipe or stick, Banks said. The incident was reported to have occurred on Barrow Street in Morgan City, Banks said. Watson was jailed.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Melvin Thibodeaux, 45, of James Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Monday on warrants for two counts of failure to pay a fine.
Thibodeaux was transported to the Morgan City Jail from St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville where he was booked on outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City.
—Chantel T. Burke, 21, of Railroad Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 9:39 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 location in regards to a suspicious person. Officers located a woman who appeared highly intoxicated. Officers’ attempts to locate a safe location for the woman, identified as Burke, were unsuccessful, Banks said. Burke was jailed.
—James L. Griffin, 25, of Park Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:46 a.m. today on a warrant for criminal damage to property, a warrant for failure to appear for damage to property and a warrant for probation violation.
Griffin was located on La.182 in Morgan City and placed under arrest on several outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City. Griffin was jailed.
—Britain M. Boudreaux, 26, of Houma, was arrested at 2:59 a.m. today for red light violation and possession of synthetic marijuana first offense.
An officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light in the area of U.S. 90 and Brashear Avenue and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Boudreaux. Officers observed suspected synthetic marijuana inside the vehicle, and the driver, Boudreaux, admitted to the use of the substance and was arrested. She was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 20 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Lenny Topham, 36, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 9:37 a.m. Monday at the parish jail on a warrant for possession of stolen things more than $500. He was arrested earlier by another agency on other charges. Bond on this charge is $5000.
—Kayla Aucoin, 21, of the 1000 block of Third Street in Morgan City, and Danielle Jones, 28, of the 500 block of Ehrlich Street in Berwick, were arrested at 1:50 p.m. Monday at a business in Bayou Vista on charges of theft of goods. Deputies were dispatched to investigate a theft. Aucoin and Topham are suspected of taking about $91 worth of merchandise, Hebert said. Both were released on summons to appear in court.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Joannette Merritt, 51, of the 1400 block of Live Oak in Patterson, was arrested at 7:25 a.m. today for aggravated battery-domestic. Merritt was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Mong Duval, 29, of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:27 a.m. Monday for theft by shoplifting, resisting an officer by giving false information and on two 16th Judicial District Court warrants for failure to appear. Bail is set at $550 for the first two charges, and no bail is set for the warrants.
