Police arrest Houma robbery suspect in Amelia

A 50-year-old Franklin man, wanted in Terrebonne Parish for armed robbery, was captured Tuesday outside a home in Amelia, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Corey A. Chapman, 50, of the 400 block of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday on a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with armed robbery, on St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants charging him with resisting an officer and criminal trespass, a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of theft, two counts of resisting an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A detective with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by an investigator with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to an ongoing investigation into the armed robbery of a CVS Pharmacy in west Houma.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives developed Chapman as a suspect in the crime through a tip. Chapman, who also had an active St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and a bench warrant, was located outside of a home on Joseph Street in Amelia.
When the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detective made contact with Chapman, he attempted to flee, pushing the detective and a deputy.
After being taken into custody, Chapman was found to be in possession of a metal pipe believed to be used for smoking illegal drugs. Chapman was transported to the parish jail for booking.
Chapman was charged on a warrant from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for armed robbery with a weapon. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 35 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Davonte J. Williams, 23, of the 400 block of Bowman Street in Morgan City, was additionally charged at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday on the first warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, improper lane usage, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license and failure to honor written promise to appear, and on a second warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, failure to use seatbelts, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license and failure honor written promise to appear.
Williams was already jailed and no bail was set.
—Deitrich Hayes, 31, of the 1000 block of Ciro Street, Siracusaville, at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday for reckless operation of a vehicle and no driver’s license.
A deputy driving on U.S. 90 in Ricohoc observed a vehicle traveling east in the west bound lane and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle, Hayes, was unable to provide the deputy with a driver’s license. He was jailed and bail set at $750.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Robert Verret, 46, of Gen. Hodges Street in Morgan City, at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with domestic abuse battery.
Verret was turned himself in at the Morgan City Police Department on an outstanding City Court warrant and was jailed.
—Charles R. Brooks, 57, of La. 182 in Morgan City, at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday on City Court warrants for probation violation, failure to appear to pay fines on possession of marijuana and failure to appear to pay probation fee.
—Bryson Verdin, 25, of Kathleen Street in Patterson, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of taking contraband to a penal institution and simple criminal damage to property.
—Corey Aleksines, 20, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple criminal damage to property.
Officers conducted cell searches in the city jail. During the searches, Verdin was found to have torn open a mattress.
Officers found a lighter in the mattress, and also noticed that Aleksines had torn his sheet and mattress.
Aleksines admitted to officers that he torn the sheet in order to use it to “fish” items from other inmates. Both Verdin and Aleksines were booked on the charges and remain incarcerated.
—Tiffany Randolph, 26, of River Road in Berwick, at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery.
—Jonelle Waltman, 50, of Church Street in Jeanerette, at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers were alerted that two inmates were fighting in a cell then entered the cell and removed both Randolph and Waltman. Officers noticed that both inmates had bruises and scratches.
It was determined that Waltman and Randolph were involved in the fight. Both inmates remain incarcerated.
—Thomas Anderson, 53, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday on a City Court warrant for probation violation and failure to use turn signal.
—Alton Alexander, 54, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks, a City Court warrant for failure to appear to pay fine on the charge of seat belt violation and a City Court warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft under $200.
A patrol officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Fourth and Arenz streets, and identified the driver as Anderson. The officer learned that the Morgan City Police Department held warrants for Anderson from City Court of Morgan City.
The passenger was identified as Alexander, who was found to be wanted by the St. Mary Parish Sherriff’s Office and the Morgan City Police Department. Both suspects were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
