A 44-year-old Bayou Vista man was jailed Thursday after being accused of harassing someone by sending threatening text messages and a note on the front door of the victim’s residence, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Charles Cantrell, 44, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for stalking and telephone harassment.
On Thursday, officers came into contact with Cantrell at a La. 182 gas station. Officers knew of an outstanding warrant for Cantrell’s arrest, Banks said. Cantrell was jailed with no bail set.
According to the warrant, police handled a complaint on Oct. 3 in regards to a man attempting to enter a residence. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the suspect had left the area. Officers gathered information of Cantrell leaving numerous text messages to an ex-acquaintance along with a note pinned to the front door of the residence he was attempting to gain entry into, Banks said.
On Wednesday, the Police Department received several calls from neighbors on Willow Street in Morgan City in regard to a man sitting in a vehicle acting suspicious. Officers located Cantrell sitting in a parked vehicle down the street from the residence where the ex-acquaintance is living, Banks said.
Officers gathered information from Cantrell and he was subsequently released pending the completion of the investigation, Banks said. Officers spoke to the victim and found that the victim was still receiving threatening text messages from Cantrell along with messages stating that he was in the area watching the residence, Banks said.
Cantrell was jailed with no bail set yet.
