Police: Hospital placed on temporary lockdown after woman waves gun

Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City was put on temporary lock down Wednesday after a 35-year-old Patterson woman was reported to have been seen waving a handgun in the hospital parking lot, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Nakeisa D. Walker, 35, of Domino Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by alarming the public.
Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Teche Regional Medical Center in regards to a disturbance in the parking lot. The caller advised that a woman was seen waving a gun in the parking lot of the hospital, Griffin said. The hospital was placed on a temporary lock down status while officers proceeded to the scene, Griffin said. Officers located a woman fitting the description in the parking lot and identified her as Walker, Griffin said.
Walker was reported to have become involved in an argument with a man in the parking lot at which time she allegedly produced a handgun, which alarmed the public in the area, Griffin said. Officers recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and secured it into evidence, Griffin said. Walker was jailed and released after posting cash bail. There were no injuries due to the complaint, Griffin said.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—Jakeysha M. Broussard, 30, of Myrtle Street in Abbeville, was arrested at 11:13 a.m. Wednesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Brennan N. Skinner, 20, of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:13 a.m. Wednesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II cocaine with the intent to distribute, simple criminal damage to property, transactions involving proceeds from illegal drug activity and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance at a hotel located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Responding officers were provided a description of the man and woman involved and were advised that the man was fleeing the scene, Griffin said.
Officers arrived and located Broussard, who had physical evidence of involvement in the physical altercation, Griffin said. Broussard was located in the parking lot attempting to leave the area in a vehicle. During the encounter, officers observed Broussard attempt to conceal an object inside the vehicle, Griffin said. Officers recovered the item, identified as marijuana, Griffin said. Officers also located additional suspected marijuana along with a bottle containing several pieces of suspected crack cocaine, Griffin said.
As officers investigated the scene, a man fitting the description of the person involved was located in the vicinity near Catherine Street, Griffin said. Skinner was positively identified as the suspect, Griffin said. Skinner confirmed that the two had been involved in an altercation, which led to damages to several objects in the room such as the smoke detector, Griffin said.
Skinner was escorted to the scene and identified the vehicle as his rental vehicle. During a complete search of the vehicle and the subsequent investigation, officers located a digital scale along with other items of paraphernalia used for the distribution of controlled substances, Griffin said.
Skinner was also found to be in possession of money, which was seized and believed to be derived from the sale of illegal narcotics, Griffin said. Both Skinner and Broussard were jailed. Skinner remains incarcerated with a bail set at $79,000. Broussard has no bail set.
—Mario D. Carbins, 32, of Justa Drive in Lafayette, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday for possession of Schedule II hydrocodone and on a warrant for Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to vaccinate dogs.
—Blake A. Johnson, 28, of Lafayette, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for probation violation and failure to pay probation fee.
Morgan City police detectives observed a vehicle improperly negotiate a turn at the intersection of U.S. 90 and La. 182 and stopped to investigate, Griffin said. Carbins, an occupant of the vehicle, was discovered to possess hydrocodone, Griffin said.
Another occupant of the vehicle, Johnson, was identified as being wanted by the City Court of Morgan City on outstanding warrants for violating terms of his probation. Both were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Roy Skinner, 50, of John Edward Lane in Thibodaux, was arrested at 5:57 p.m. Wednesday for driving under suspension and speeding 35 miles per hour in a 20 mph zone. Skinner posted $1,250 bail.
—Blake Wain, 18, of Watkins Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wain posted $3,500 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints in the parish.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
