Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who is accused of robbing and assaulting a 72-year-old Morgan City man early Saturday morning, Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said.
Police received a call at 1:57 a.m. Saturday in reference to an armed robbery in the 200 block of First Street, Griffin said. During the incident, a 72-year-old man said he was returning to his residence when someone knocked him over the head with some type of weapon causing him to fall to the ground, Griffin said.
The suspect went through the victim’s pockets and took an undisclosed amount of money, Griffin said. The only description of the suspect the victim has provided is of a possible black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build wearing shorts, a white shirt and ball cap, Griffin said.
Anyone with further information on the case is asked to call the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division at 985-380-4605.
