Police: Man booked for DWI, possession of drugs

A 38-year-old Marrero man was charged with DWI second offense and possession of hydrocodone and oxycodone Monday after Morgan City police stopped him for driving carelessly on Federal Avenue, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Derick A. Labry, 38, of Esher Place in Marrero, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Monday on the charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle, DWI second offense, driving under suspension, possession of hydrocodone, possession of oxycodone and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and in a careless manner on Federal Avenue near Brashear Avenue and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Labry, had a suspended driver’s license.
Officers also suspected Labry to have been drinking and believed he was intoxicated. Labry was arrested and searched when the officer located suspected hydrocodone and oxycodone on him.
The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Labry was taken to the police department where he allegedly refused the Intoxilyzer 5000 test. Labry was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Carl Allen, 25, of Park Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with probation violation and on the charges of improper headlights, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance while in the presence of persons under 18 years old and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
Narcotics detectives observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Federal Avenue near Marshall Street with improper headlights and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Allen, had a suspended driver’s license and a city court warrant for his arrest. Investigators also observed two small children inside the vehicle.
Allen’s behavior made investigators suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity. Police searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Allen was jailed.
—Blake Dinger, 24, of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:11 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Dinger was transported from the Berwick Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on a city court warrant. Dinger was jailed.
—Cameron Blanchard Jr. 20, of Angus Street in Pierre Part, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. Monday on the charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle and DWI.
Officers responded to the area of Railroad Avenue at Aycock Street in regard to a vehicle parked on the railroad tracks. Police arrived and located the vehicle still parked on the railroad tracks but unoccupied. Officers were approached moments later by Blanchard, who was identified as the driver of the vehicle.
Blanchard was suspected to have been drinking and was believed to be intoxicated. Blanchard was transported to the police department for further chemical testing where Blanchard submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.226 grams-percent. Blanchard was jailed.
—Elton J. Landry, 55, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with probation violation
Officers located Landry at a home on Federal Avenue where he was arrested on a city court warrant. Landry was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 73 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Matthew Strubb, 19, of Canal Drive in Franklin, was arrested at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft of goods. A deputy investigating a Feb. 25 complaint of shoplifting from a store in Bayou Vista identified Strubb as a suspect who exited the store without paying for an item. Following the investigation, Strubb was released on a summons to appear in court May 10.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Eric Gaskin, 36, of Como Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery. Gaskin was jailed on $319 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Lushawda Zachary, 33, of Wedell Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:27 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of speeding 48 mph in a 30 mph zone and open container. Zachary posted $502 cash bail.
