Police: Man stole bike in Amelia

A 41-year-old Amelia man was jailed Tuesday after allegedly stealing a bike on Monday, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Chad Toups, 41, of the 100 block of Doris Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:07 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with theft.
A deputy investigating a Monday report of a stolen bicycle learned that several people witnessed Toups steal the bike from the porch of a residence on West Syls Lane, Hebert said. Following the investigation, the deputy obtained a warrant for Toups’ arrest. A deputy then located Toups at his residence on the warrant. Bail is set at $7,500.
Hebert reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Misty L. Gaudet, 27, of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday on a St. Martin Parish warrant charge of theft.
A deputy conducting a traffic stop for speeding on U.S. 90 in the Siracusa area made contact with Gaudet, the driver of the vehicle, and learned that she had an active warrant for her arrest from St. Martin Parish. Gaudet was transported to the parish jail for booking. St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office then recalled the warrant and Gaudet was released, Hebert said.
—Alisha Mire, 30, of the 100 block of Jordin Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of violation of the parish leash law ordinance. A deputy investigating an animal complaint on Jordin Lane learned that Mire’s dog got loose and bit another dog. Animal control was contacted to take custody of Mire’s animal for observation, Hebert said. Mire was issued a summons to appear in court Jan. 31.
—Christopher Crochet, 25, of the 1000 block of Belleview Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Monday on the charges of following too closely, possession of Schedule I drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Anthony Harris, 19, of the 200 block of West Side Park Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of Schedule I drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Samoa Scott, 19, of the 700 block of Hilda Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of Schedule I drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy observed a car following another vehicle too closely on U.S. 90 in Morgan City and conducted a traffic stop on Ninth Street.
The deputy made contact with the driver, Crochet, and two passengers, Harris and Scott. While speaking with the occupants, the deputy received consent to search the car and located a small plastic bag containing marijuana inside the vehicle, Hebert said. The deputy also found a pack of small cigars inside the car. Following the investigation, Crochet and Scott were released on summonses to appear in court Jan 13. Harris was jailed with bail set at $3,500.
—Heather Rankins, 29, of the 1000 block of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:08 a.m. Saturday on the charges of speeding and driving under suspension. A deputy patrolling the Franklin area found a vehicle to be speeding on Irish Bend Road.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Rankins. The deputy learned Rankins had a suspended driver’s license. Rankins was released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 13.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Jerry Boyer, 70, of Morgan City, was arrested at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of appearing in public intoxicated and remaining where forbidden.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on Brashear Avenue in regard to an individual sleeping behind the building. When officers arrived, they located Boyer, who appeared to be in an intoxicated condition, Blair said.
According to reports, management had barred Boyer from the property. Boyer was jailed.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Eulala McCoy, 20, of Vista Village in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday on 16th Judicial District Court warrants for failure to appear on the charges of forgery and monetary instrument abuse, unlawful use of a driver’s license, and operating a vehicle without proper equipment. McCoy was booked and released on $2,000 bail..
—Ciara Williams, 27, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:57 p.m. Saturday on the charges of obstruction of justice, a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of speeding and no driver’s license for Jeanerette City Court, and a warrant for contempt of court for Morgan City Court.
Williams was jailed. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
