Police: Shooting suspect arrested; no one injured in shooting

Police said a 33-year-old Morgan City man was captured Sunday after he pointed a gun at two people during an argument and then fired the gun toward the sky. But no one was injured, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
Carlton Cosey, 33, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Sunday on the charges of two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and discharging of firearms within the city limits
Officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the area of Maine and Fourth streets. An off-duty officer, who was in the area at the time, intervened when witnesses told the officer that Cosey was the shooter and was attempting to flee the area in a vehicle, Blair said.
The officer observed Cosey as the passenger in a vehicle. The off-duty officer identified himself as a law enforcement officer and detained Cosey until responding officers arrived.
Additional officers arrived on scene and secured the area for further investigation. Several witnesses told police that Cosey was involved in an argument, and then went to a vehicle and got a firearm.
Cosey allegedly pointed the firearm at two people and then pointed the firearm towards the sky, firing several shots, Blair said. Cosey put the firearm back into the vehicle and was attempting to flee the area when the off-duty officer detained him, Blair said.
Officers searched the vehicle and located a firearm suspected to have been involved in the incident. Investigators found evidence supporting the allegations, Blair said. Cosey, a convicted felon, was jailed with bail set at $85,000.
