Police: Teen made up story about attack

A Morgan City teen was charged this morning after police determined he fabricated a story in which someone tried to hit him with a vehicle March 25, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Drew Duval, 17, of Maple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:03 a.m. today on a 6th Ward Court warrant for criminal mischief.
The warrant stems from an incident that had taken place March 25, in which Duval filed a report about the alleged attack, Griffin said. Police obtained video footage and later determined that the incident Duval reported was false, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, Griffin said. Officers located Duval in the area of Sacred Heart Drive. He was jailed.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—Jessica Brown, 22, of Vincent Street in St. Martinville, at 10:47 a.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear in the 16th Judicial District Court on the charge of possession of marijuana. Brown turned herself in to the police department and was jailed.
—Kenneth Hamilton, 27, of Amelia, at 2 p.m. Monday on warrants for the 6th Ward Court for failure to appear for trial on the charges of driving while intoxicated, battery on a police officer, open container and careless operation. Hamilton turned himself in to the police department and was jailed.
—Gerard Deshotel, 44, of La. 182 West in Morgan City, at 3:53 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of marijuana first offense.
—Diana Deshotel, 51, of La. 182 West in Morgan City, at 3:53 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of marijuana first offense.
Officers were dispatched to a local apartment complex on La. 182 in reference to a complaint. When officers arrived, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence, Griffin said. Officers spoke to the owners of the residence, Gerard and Diana Deshotel, and they were asked about the smell coming from their residence. Both gave consent to search their residence, and officers located suspected marijuana in one of the bedrooms, Griffin said. Both suspects were jailed.
—Richard Tharp, 36, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, at 5:06 p.m. Monday on the charges of theft of goods and appearing in public intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a convenience store on Federal Avenue in regards to a shoplifter. When officers arrived, management stated that Tharp had come into the store wanting to buy an item, but did not have enough money, Griffin said. Tharp told management he had a line of credit with the store, Griffin said. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Tharp, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Donnie Smith, 45, of Maine Street in Morgan City, at 10:38 p.m. Sunday on the charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, appearing in an intoxicated condition and theft.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Federal Avenue in reference to someone located inside the residence. When officers arrived, the victim said when she arrived home, a man was in her bedroom, Griffin said. The man told her he was looking for her father, Griffin said. The man then left the residence.
A man fitting the description was located on Maine Street carrying an ice chest. He identified himself as Smith and he had a strong smell of alcoholic beverage on him, Griffin said. Officers discovered the ice chest was stolen. Smith was jailed.
—Bradley Hebert, 24, of La. 182 East in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:26 p.m. Thursday on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in reference to a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they noticed a woman outside of the apartment crying, Griffin said. She stated that her husband, Hebert, had struck her in the face.
Officers did notice red marks on the victim’s neck and facial area. Officers were able to locate Hebert inside the residence and he was asked about the incident. During the investigation, Hebert admitted to striking his wife. He was jailed.
—Antoine Randle, 29, of Cherry Street in Morgan City, at 11:55 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of marijuana second offense, obstruction of justice and improper lane usage.
—Barry Jones, 27, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, at 11:55 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Morgan City Police Department received information that Randle possibly had illegal narcotics in his vehicle. A description of his vehicle was given and an officer in the area of La. 182 and David Drive noticed a vehicle fitting the description.
The officer observed the vehicle driving in the middle of the road on David Drive. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver, Randle was asked to exit the vehicle. Randle was advised of why he was being stopped and was asked if a vehicle search could be done on his vehicle.
Randle gave officers’ consent to search his vehicle where suspected marijuana they located on the driver’s side, Griffin said. Officers also found a semi-automatic pistol near where the passenger, Barry Jones, was located. Jones admitted that the firearm belonged to him. Criminal history check was done on Jones, which determined that he was a convicted felon. Both were jailed.
—Jourdan Bartley, 22, of Bernice Street in Morgan City, at 9:41 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.
An officer noticed a vehicle with an infant unrestrained and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Cottonwood Street near Sandra Street.
Upon walking up to the vehicle the officer noticed the passenger try to place the infant in a child safety seat. While talking the driver, a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle, Griffin said. The driver was asked why the child was not restrained. The driver stated that the child was crying and the passenger decided to hold the infant, Griffin said.
The driver was unsure of where the smell of marijuana was coming from, Griffin said. The officer then spoke to the passenger, Bartley, and he was asked about the smell in the vehicle. Bartley then reached into his pants packets and retrieved suspected marijuana. Officers found more suspected marijuana on him, Griffin said. Bartley was jailed.
—Wallace Williams, 49, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, at 1:45 a.m. Saturday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated second offense, speeding 55 mph in a 45 mph zone, no driver’s license, and on a warrant charging him with two counts of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
A patrol officer was working radar in the area of La. 182 and Martin Luther King Boulevard noticed a vehicle going 55 mph in a 45 mph zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Grizzaffi Street. The driver, Williams, exited his vehicle and was asked for his driver’s license. Williams replied that he did not have one. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver and he was asked to perform the standard field sobriety test, in which he performed poorly. Williams was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department. Williams refused the chemical test and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Griffin said. Williams was jailed.
—Jody Darby, 22, of Todd Street in Morgan City, at 2:17 a.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A patrolling officer in the area of Ditch Avenue and La. 182 noticed a vehicle with the driver not wearing a safety belt. The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle, Darby, was asked to step out of the vehicle. The driver was asked could the vehicle be searched and consent was given. The K-9 unit was deployed and suspected marijuana was found in a bag belonging to Darby. Darby was jailed.
—O’brien Humphery, 25, of Village Lane in Morgan City, at 9:39 p.m. Saturday on a warrant charging him with stop sign violation.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Pecos Street in reference to a complaint. While at the residence, contact was made with Humphrey. A local warrants check was done on Humphrey and it was determined that he held an outstanding warrant for stop sign violation. He was jailed.
—Shanita Watts, 36, of Barrow Street in Morgan City, at 12:47 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of shoplifting, a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment and resisting an officer by giving false information.
Police received information that a woman in the area of Everett and Eighth streets held active warrants for this department. An officer located a woman fitting the description, Griffin said. The woman was asked her name, but gave a name that was determined not to be her actual name, Griffin said. A positive identification was done on the female and the warrants were located. She was jailed.
—Larry Smith, 18, of Coteau Road in Houma, at 2:55 p.m. Saturday on the charge of reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
An officer in the area of Lake End Park was flagged down about an individual driving at a high rate of speed in the park area. The officer was given a description of the vehicle and driver. The officer was able to locate the vehicle and driver in the park.
While speaking the driver, several witnesses approached stating that the driver was speeding in the areas where kids were playing. The driver, Smith, stated that he was driving around the park when someone yelled at him. He stated that he accidently peeled out in some rocks. At this time, Smith was jailed.
—Joseph Price, 43, of Levee Road in Morgan City, at 8:56 p.m. Saturday on the charges of contempt of court and failure to pay a fine.
Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Federal Avenue in reference to a suspicious person wearing a red jacket and blue jeans. Officers made contact with Price and a local warrants check was done and determined he held outstanding warrants for this department. Price was jailed.
—Jessie Sanders, 18, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, at 2:01 a.m. Sunday on the charges of failure to signal turn and two brake lights required.
An officer in the area of Roderick Street and La. 182 observed a vehicle traveling east La. 182 fail to signal and the passenger side brake light was not functioning. A traffic stop was done on the vehicle. The driver, Sanders, was asked exited the vehicle and a strong odor of alcohol was emitting from the vehicle.
Sanders stated that he drank three beers prior to being stopped, Griffin said. Sanders performed poorly on a field sobriety test. Sanders submitted to the chemical intoxication test, which yielded .000 grams-percent blood alcohol content. Therefore, he was charged with only the traffic violation.
—Oscar Quintanilla, 28, of Francis Street in Amelia, at 4:54 a.m. Sunday on the charges of speeding 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, improper lane usage, driving while intoxicated and driving under suspension.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 70 observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer then was able to get behind the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, Griffin said.
When the vehicle stopped, the driver, Quintanilla, exited. The officer observed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from Quintanilla’s person. The driver was asked to produce a driver’s license and it was determined that Quintanilla’s license was under suspension. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test. Quintanilla refused to submit to the chemical test at the police department. He was jailed.
—Tianne Moore, 37, of Moffett Court in Morgan City, at 4:56 p.m. Sunday on the charge of driving under suspension, on a warrant for probation violations, a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant and warrants for two counts of failure to appear in 16th Judicial District Court.
Police received information about a reckless driver in the area of Brashear Avenue and La. 70. Officers located the vehicle in the area of Veterans Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Moore, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. Officers learned that Moore’s license was under suspension and she held outstanding warrants. She was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 29 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jeremiah Reece, 38, of the 1100 block of SW Boswell Avenue in Topeka, Kansas, Monday at 8:21 p.m. for simple battery.
—Claudia Granados, 33, 371 Harold Boulevard, Liberal, Kansas, Monday at 8:31 p.m. for simple battery.
While patrolling the Bayou Vista area, a deputy was flagged down by a subject in the Wal-Mart parking lot in reference to a disturbance. During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that Reece and Granados were arguing when the two struck each other inside a vehicle Reece was driving. Both were released on summons to appear in court July 22.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Otis Williams, 45, of Beau Lane in Bayou Vista, at 4:40 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with driving while intoxicated. Williams was jailed on $15,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
