Police: Three arrested for soliciting prostitutes
Three men were charged with soliciting prostitutes Friday during an undercover operation at a motel in Morgan City, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Lorne C. Brantley, 47, of Tyler Street in Greensville, was arrested 1:53 p.m. Friday on the charge of soliciting for prostitutes.
—David A. Guidry, 20, La. 307 in Thibodaux, La. was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Friday on the charge of soliciting for prostitutes.
—Dakota Dewitt, 31, of Myrtle Street in Houma, was arrested at 8:25 p.m. Friday on the charge of soliciting for prostitutes.
Brantley, Guidry and Dewitt were arrested at a motel in Morgan City on charges of soliciting for prostitutes.
Detectives conducting an ongoing investigation of online soliciting and human trafficking identified Brantley, Guidry and Dewitt during an undercover operation.
The three suspects allegedly made contact with an undercover officer and later met with the officer at the motel for alleged prostitution activity.
Brantley, Guidry and Dewitt were jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Anthony J. Harris, 21, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:25 a.m. Friday on warrants charging him with possession of cocaine and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
Officers located Harris on Railroad Avenue near Ditch Avenue and arrested him on warrants. The warrants were obtained from an investigation of a Jan. 24 where Harris was alleged to be in possession of cocaine while in a drug free zone at a medical facility on La. 70. Harris was jailed.
—Efrain M. Zavala, 25, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:03 p.m. Friday on the charges of stop sign violation, improper turning and no driver’s license.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle fail to stop and use its turn signal as it traveled from Federal Avenue on to Levee Road and stopped the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Zavala, did not have a valid driver’s license. Zavala was jailed.
—Manuel M. Liviana, 43, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Friday on the charges of improper tail lights and no driver’s license.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Federal Avenue with improper tail lights and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Liviana, did not have a valid driver’s license. Liviana was jailed.
—Brandy Solar, 38, of Sugarloaf Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:56 p.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of improper lane usage and failure to appear on the charge of no vehicle insurance.
Officers located Solar at an address on Railroad Avenue on city court warrants. Solar was jailed.
—Quentin Businelle, 38, of La. 70 in Pierre Part, was arrested at 1:48 a.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of improper lane usage, no driver’s license and texting while driving.
Police located Businelle on Second Street near Everett Street and arrested on city court warrants. Businelle was jailed.
—Yordin O. Suazo, 23, of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:17 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of cocaine, improper turning and no driver’s license.
—Christian J. Rivera, 17, of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:17 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of cocaine.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn at the intersection of Catherine and Justa streets and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Suazo and passenger as Rivera. Their behavior made officers suspicious that they may be involved in illegal drug activity.
The officer searched the vehicle and located suspected cocaine. Suazo also didn’t have a valid driver’s license. Both Suazo and Rivera were jailed.
—Jessica Daigle, 28, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:03 a.m. Sunday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Officers responded to a lounge on La. 182 in regard to a disturbance. Police arrived when they located Daigle, who was identified as a participant in the alleged disturbance.
Daigle’s behavior made the officer suspicious that she may be involved in illegal drug activity. The officer conducted a search and located suspected marijuana on her. Daigle was jailed.
—Areana C. L. Candanedo, 26, of Park Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, no driver’s license and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Fourth Street driven by a person known to the officer as Candanedo. The officer had knowledge Candanedo didn’t have a valid driver’s license and stopped the vehicle.
During a search, the officer located suspected methamphetamine on Candanedo, who was jailed.
—Charles B. Edward, 35, of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:09 p.m. Sunday on the charges of improper turning and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn at the intersection of Marguerite and Seventh streets and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Edward, had a suspended driver’s license. He was jailed.
—Kayla M. Francise, 19, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:55 p.m. Sunday on a warrant charging her with contempt of court.
Francise was arrested at the police department on a city court warrant. Francise was jailed.
—Scott J. Moffatt, 27, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:47 p.m. Sunday on the charges of entry or remaining on premises after forbidden, disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer.
Officers responded to a convenience store on La. 182 in regard to a person refusing to leave the premises. Police arrived and located a person identified as Moffatt, who matched the description provided.
Police were told by store employees that Moffatt had entered the store and began to cause a disturbance. Moffatt was told several times by store employees to leave the store but allegedly refused to do so. Officers suspected that Moffatt had been drinking and was intoxicated. Moffatt was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 83 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jovian Clark, 35, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 3:24 p.m. Friday on the charges of resisting an officer by force or violence, obstruction of justice, possession of synthetic cannabinoids with intent to distribute, possession of MDMA with intent to distribute, transactions involving drug proceeds and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone.
Narcotics section detectives patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop. As detectives made contact with a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Clark, they saw him attempt to conceal a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance in his pants.
Clark then pushed a detective and fled on foot. Detectives pursued Clark and apprehended him after a brief foot chase. Detectives located the bag on Clark. The bag contained over four dozen MDMA pills and individually packaged plastic baggies of synthetic marijuana.
Several hundred dollars in cash was also found on Clark. During the investigation, detectives collected evidence that Clark sold the illicit drugs. The traffic stop investigation took place within 2,000 feet of an elementary school. Clark was jailed with no bail set.
—Brent Rock Jr., 26, of Clarke Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:12 p.m. Friday on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of third offense domestic abuse battery with a child present, failure to appear on the charges of theft of goods and simple battery and failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana and disturbing the peace intoxicated.
A deputy located Rock at his home on the warrants and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $14,000.
—Caleb Trahan, 18, of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 7:54 p.m. Friday on the charge of misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia and Siracusa area observed a vehicle parked beneath the Greenwood overpass. The deputy spoke with two occupants of the car, Trahan and a 16-year-old girl. During the investigation, the deputy found evidence that the two engaged in sexual acts in the vehicle.
Trahan was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking and was later released after posting $1,000 bail.
—Jovi Guidry, 28, of Valhi Boulevard in Houma, was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Johnny Smith, 25, of Vicari Street in Houma, was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy observed a vehicle speeding on U.S. 90 in Berwick and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, Guidry, and passenger, Smith, the deputy smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed pieces of marijuana on Smith.
Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located over one pound of marijuana, a digital scale, rolling papers, and two grinders. During the investigation, deputies also collected evidence that Guidry sold the illegal drug.
Guidry and Smith were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Guidry was also cited for speeding. Smith was released on $2,000 bail. No bail is set for Guidry.
—Brent Aucoin, 48, of Cedar Street in Labadieville, was arrested at 3:06 a.m. Sunday on the charge of possession of stolen property.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia and Siracusa area observed a vehicle parked on La. 182 near the Greenwood overpass. The deputy stopped and made contact with the driver, identified as Aucoin. While speaking with Aucoin, the deputy learned that he had firearms inside the vehicle.
The deputy received consent to retrieve the two weapons and found that one of the guns, a pistol, had been reported stolen out of Lafourche Parish. Following an investigation, Aucoin was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Aucoin was released on $2,500 bail.
—Kayla M. Francise, 19, of Keith Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Sunday on a warrant from the City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear on the charge of contempt of court. A deputy located Francise at her home on the warrant and transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Devon Sonnier, 27, of U.S. 90 in New Iberia, was arrested at 10:12 a.m. Sunday on the charges of simple battery involving domestic violence. Sonnier was released on bail set at $2,300.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—George Griffin Jr., 64, of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:56 p.m. Saturday on the charge of turn movement required signal and a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment. Griffin remains jailed. No bail is set at this time.
Chitamacha Police Chief Hal Hutchinson reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Summer Gaudet, 22, Lake Palourde Road, Morgan City, was arrested Friday on the charge of possession of marijuana. She was released on a misdemeanor summons. Gaudet was one of three people arrested after officers with the Chitimacha Tribal Police Department conducted a narcotics search warrant at an address in the 100 block of Jena Street, located on the Chitimacha Tribal Reservation.
