Police: Woman caught with cocaine, handgun

A 21-year-old Morgan City woman was caught Tuesday with crack cocaine, marijuana and a semi-automatic handgun at a Patton Street residence after police received an anonymous tip, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Kylah S. Weeden, 21, of the 300 block of Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II cocaine with intent to distribute, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions involving the proceeds from illegal sales of controlled dangerous substances.
Patrol officers acting on an anonymous tip in regards to illegal drug use traveled to a residence in the 300 block of Patton Street where they came into contact with Weeden inside the residence, Griffin said. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana inside the residence and secured the residence for a search warrant.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and, during the subsequent search, located a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun, and additional suspected marijuana along with crack cocaine, Griffin said. Detectives also located a large amount of cash believed to be derived from the sales of illegal narcotics, Griffin said. The evidence was seized and Weeden was jailed.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—William J. Roberson Jr., 29, of Patterson, was arrested at 7:43 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of speeding in a posted zone 51 mph in a 30 mph, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a moving vehicle, red light violation, no insurance and failure to obtain proper registration.
A patrolling officer observed a motorcycle traveling on Brashear Avenue at a high rate of speed, Griffin said. The officer pulled into the roadway to make an attempt to stop the vehicle, Griffin said. However, the driver continued to speed away from the officer, Griffin said.
The suspect was observed driving in a reckless manner, disregarding a stop light and traveling at a high rate of speed, Griffin said. Officers were able to maintain intermittent contact with the vehicle and again came into contact with the suspect vehicle as it approached an officers location near the intersection of Sixth and Arenz streets.
The driver lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected, Griffin said. The driver, uninjured, attempted to flee but was apprehended by officers, Griffin said. The vehicle was found to not possess valid Louisiana registration or motor vehicle insurance and was removed from the scene by wrecker service, Griffin said. Roberson was jailed.
—Aries D. Keal, 31, of Baldwin, was arrested at 8:52 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of driving under suspension
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182 with a canceled license plate and stopped to investigate. The driver, Keal, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was jailed.
—Ti’ryce B. Oliney, 18, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:38 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
—Angel A. Hawkins, 17, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:38 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
Hawkins and Oliney were both arrested at Morgan City High School after officers were advised that they became involved in a physical altercation while on school property. Both were jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Elkin N. Mesa, 24, of Houston, Texas, was arrested at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of reckless operation of a moving vehicle.
Officers received a complaint of a vehicle traveling through Morgan City on U.S. 90 traveling at a high rate of speed estimated at 100 mph, Griffin said. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and observed the reckless and dangerous driving. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Mesa, who also possessed suspected marijuana, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Reginald K. Sims, 34, of St. Joseph Street in Franklin, was arrested at 5:52 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging him with distribution of synthetic marijuana and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.
In a continuing investigation and “Operation April Fool,” investigators were able to apprehend a suspect, Sims who was wanted on warrants obtained as a result of an investigation into the sales of illegal narcotics in the Morgan City area. Detectives located Sims in Franklin. He was jailed with bail set at $75,000. The effort to apprehend those suspects identified in the investigation began March 27 and will continue until all suspects identified are apprehended.
—Aaron M. Thompson, 36, of Dequincy, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers, dispatched to the area of Montana Street in regard to a disturbance, were advised that the victim and complainant was attacked by a man and woman, Griffin said. Officers located a man in the area which fit the description provided. Thompson was positively identified as the suspect who had committed a battery on the victim, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Tanner A. Aucoin, 19, of Columbus Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Kimberly Evans, 24, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia second offense.
—Bree Aucoin, 20, of Middle Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Morgan City Police Department received a complaint of a theft from a Walnut Drive residence and began an investigation. Detectives were able to identify a suspect in the theft as Bass who was accused of committing the theft of gasoline and marine electronics from another Walnut Drive residence.
Bass also was identified as a suspect in the unauthorized use of a marine vessel taken from a different Walnut Drive residence which he allegedly used in commission of the reported theft. Investigators developed information and obtained a search warrant for the Walnut Drive residence occupied by Bass. Investigators executed the search warrant and located Bass, Tanner Aucoin, Bree Aucoin and Evans.
During the investigation, detectives located suspected marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia. All were arrested. Bass was also arrested on warrants which detectives’ obtained as a result of the investigation. They were transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were booked and incarcerated. —Desmon H. Cousins, 38, of Oregon Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:42 a.m. today on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers patrolling the city wharf located a person sleeping inside a vehicle and stopped to investigate, Griffin said. Cousins was found to be in possession of a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics and was subsequently arrested. He was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 89 complaints in the parish during a 48-hour period and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Eric Driskill, 40, of the 3100 block of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of prohibited use of fireworks.
—Jevon Smith, 37, of the 1100 block of Francis Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Steve Berryhill, 44, of the 1400 block of Fairmont Avenue in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule III Fiorinal, possession of a Legend Drug Keflex without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies responded to a report of a loud noise on Fairmont Avenue. The complainant stated that the noise sounded like an explosion. Deputies and narcotics detectives responded to the area and learned that the noise came from an address in the 1400 block of Fairmont Avenue, which is Berryhill’s residence, Hebert said. There, detectives made contact with three people and determined that the noise was caused by a firework, Hebert said.
While the suspects were showing detectives the used firework in the garage, a detective observed a syringe nearby. Suspecting illegal drug activity, detectives furthered the investigation. Detectives received consent to search the residence and located Fiorinal and Keflex pills in Berryhill’s bedroom and several items of drug paraphernalia belonging to Smith, the sheriff said. Driskell and Smith were released on a summons to appear in court June 17. Berryhill was jailed with no bail set.
—A juvenile female, 14, of Patterson, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Monday for battery of a school teacher and battery of a police officer. A school resource officer assigned to the St. Mary Parish Alternative School responded to a report of a disturbance in a classroom.
During the course of the investigation, the SRO learned that the juvenile struck a teacher in the head. During the arrest, the juvenile head butted another deputy assisting with the complaint. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Benjamin M. Decuir, 36, of the 2100 block of W. Old Spanish Trail in New Iberia, was arrested at 5:29 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, speeding, and failure to honor written promise to appear.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 90 in the Calumet area. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Decuir, and discovered an active warrant for his arrest. Decuir was jailed and later released on $350 bail.
—A juvenile female, 12, of Patterson, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Monday on the charges of simple battery, disturbing the peace fighting, criminal trespass and ungovernable juvenile.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a fight in the Patterson area. During the investigation, the deputy determined that the juvenile went to a residence with the intention of fighting another juvenile. The 12-year-old engaged the juvenile who was at the residence in a fight, Hebert said. An adult female victim was struck in the head multiple times while attempting to break up the altercation. The 12-year-old was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Perry J. Ourso, 55, of the 500 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at midnight Tuesday on the charges of theft by shoplifting and trespassing.
—Jenny K. Landry, 57, of the 500 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at midnight Tuesday on the charge of theft by shoplifting.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. While en route, the deputy received information that two people loaded a large flat screen television into the back of a pick-up truck and were leaving the area, the sheriff said. The deputy located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of the store and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, Ourso, and a passenger, Landry.
Using witness statements and video surveillance, the deputy identified Ourso and Landry as the suspects who stole the television. The deputy transported them to the parish jail for booking. Ourso’s bail is set at $2,000. Bail is set for Landry at $1,000.
—Dana Cross, 23, of the 1700 block of Harry D. Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:23 a.m. Monday on a warrant for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Narcotics detectives assisting Morgan City Police in “Operation April Fool” located a firearm belonging to Cross at a residence in Centerville where he had just been arrested and transported on another warrant.
Detectives discovered that Cross was a convicted felon and obtained a warrant for illegal possession of a firearm, Hebert said. Cross was located at the Morgan City Police Department jail and taken to parish jail with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Misty Lafleur, 33, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday on a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear in the 15th Judicial District Court on the charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Lafleur was awaiting bail to be set.
—Judith Fabre, 22, of Bridge Road in Patterson, was arrested at 12:44 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging her with monetary instrument abuse. Fabre was released on $2,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
