Police: Woman charged with battery on 2 inmates

A 22-year-old Franklin woman committed a battery on two other inmates Tuesday while incarcerated in the Morgan City jail, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Markeisha Hamilton, 22, of Gum Street in Franklin, was arrested at 4 p.m. Tuesday on two counts of simple battery. A correctional officer heard a disturbance in one of the cells and observed two female inmates involved in an argument. One of the inmates was Hamilton.
The correctional officer observed Hamilton committing a battery on two other inmates. Hamilton was booked on the addi-tional charges.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Billie Driskell, 40, of Park Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:38 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging her with contempt of court.
Officers located Driskell at an address on Victor II Boulevard where she was arrested on an active warrant. Driskell was jailed.
—James R.A. Albert, 47, of Watson Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers responded to a lounge on La. 182 in regard to a reported fight. Police arrived and located Albert, who was being detained by several witnesses to the incident. Police spoke with a man, later identified as the victim of a battery, along with several witnesses to the incident.
They were told that Albert was inside the lounge making rude comments to a person, which resulted in an argument. During the argument, Albert allegedly committed a battery on the victim and was detained by patrons inside the lounge. Albert appeared to be intoxicated and was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—William Traylor, 39, of Harvest Court in Thibodaux, was arrested at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, operating a vehicle with improper tail lights, operating a vehicle with an unlit license plate and for failure to appear on the charge of drug paraphernalia and 32nd Judicial District Court warrants for failure to appear on the charges of texting while driving, expired motor vehicle inspection, no driver’s license on person, resisting an officer and for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
A deputy assigned to patrol Bayou Vista ob-served a man standing at the intersection of Arlington Road and Jupiter Street. The deputy recognized the subject as Traylor who was wanted on warrants from Terrebonne Parish. The deputy made contact with Traylor and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Louis Lee, 60, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:46 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of theft of goods.
A deputy was dis-patched to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy located a person matching the suspect’s description leaving the store and identified him as Lee.
While speaking to the deputy, Lee admitted that he took several items from the store without paying for the merchandise. The deputy located the stolen items inside a gym bag Lee was carrying. Lee was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—George Griffin Jr., 64, of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday on two St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants for failure to appear. Griffin was jailed with no bail set yet.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
