Public’s help sought in off-duty officer involved shooting

An off-duty Thibodaux police officer exchanged gunfire after interrupting a burglary at his Labadieville residence, a Louisiana State Police news release reported.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday, police said.
The investigation revealed that an off-duty Thibodaux Police Department officer interrupted a burglary at his residence in Labadieville.  The off-duty officer was home at the time of the incident and upon attempting to apprehend the burglary suspect, the suspect fired at the off-duty officer, police said.
The Thibodaux officer returned fire at the suspect who fled into a nearby waiting vehicle, police said. 
The vehicle then fled the scene traveling south on La. 1 from the Labadieville area, police said.
The off-duty officer was not injured during the incident and it is unclear at this time if the suspect or driver was injured, police said.
The Louisiana State Police is asking the public’s assistance in this case.  If anyone has any information about the incident or noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling south on La. 1 or La. 308 from the Labadieville area early this morning, please contact investigators at the below numbers.
