Sheriff: Amelia man punched woman

A 21-year-old Amelia man was apprehended Wednesday after being accused of punching and pushing a woman and damaging property at a residence, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Curtis Gaudet Jr., 21, of the 200 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 8:22 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for the charge of domestic abuse battery and criminal damage to property. The warrant stems from an investigation into a disturbance that occurred at a residence in Amelia in which Gaudet punched and pushed a woman during an argument, Hebert said.
Gaudet also broke some items in the residence during the battery. A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area knew Gaudet was wanted on the active warrant and observed him in the passenger seat of a vehicle travelling on Lake Palourde Road, the sheriff said. The deputy stopped the vehicle, made contact with Gaudet, who was jailed and released after posting $2,750 bail.
Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Wesley A. Rink, 20, and Judith Bowen, 26, both of 100 block of Bayou Boeuf Road in Amelia, at 10:37 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responded to a request to remove subjects from a hotel in Amelia. The deputy made contact with the subjects, identified as Rink and Bowen. While speaking with them, the deputy received consent to search the room and located two pieces of cut straws used for inhaling illegal drugs, Hebert said. Rink and Bowen were released on summons to appear in court Sept. 16.
—Alex “Wilfredo” Hernandez, 33, of Amelia, was additionally charged on a warrant for failure to appear for the offenses of disturbing the peace and possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle. Hernandez was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Bail is set at $5,750.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Byron J. McGraw, 43, of Pecos Street in Morgan City, at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of violation of a protective order and criminal trespass.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Pecos Street in regards to someone violating of a protective order. When officers arrived, a witness stated that McGraw was found inside the residence.
Officers located McGraw in the residence and stated he was aware of the protective order against him, Blair said. McGraw was jailed.
—Sable A. Leal, 25, of Gibson, at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging her with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule IV Diazepam and possession of Schedule I heroin.
Leal was transported from the Patterson Police Department on outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department. The warrants stem from an investigation April 7 at a motel where suspected heroin and Diazepam was found in the room Leal was occupying, Blair said. Leal was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
