Sheriff: Man caught with cocaine, pills

A 40-year-old Morgan City man was caught with crack cocaine and pills Monday after a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped the man walking in Amelia, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Adam Charles, 40, of the 2100 block of Maple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:35 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of Schedule II cocaine, possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a person walking onto Friendship Alley. When the subject saw the deputy, he turned back onto Lake Palourde Road. The deputy also observed that the subject’s hands were shaking, Hebert said.
The deputy stopped the subject, identified as Charles. While speaking with Charles, the deputy received consent to search him and located a piece of crack cocaine in his pants pocket along with two pills of Buspirone hydrochloride for which Charles did not have a prescription, Hebert said.
The deputy also located a metal pipe used for smoking crack cocaine on him, Hebert said. Charles was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 32 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Radiance Perez, 25, of the 200 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:37 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of Schedule I drugs.
—Kristi Simmons, 30, of the 1000 block of Joseph Street in Amelia, was arrested at 1:08 p.m. Monday on two warrants from Houma Police for failure to appear on the charge of violation of child restraint law.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 on the Greenwood over-pass observed a vehicle being driven by a subject who had an active warrant. The deputy stopped the vehicle driven by Perez, and made the arrest.
The deputy also made con-tact with a passenger in the vehicle, Simmons, and located an active warrant for her arrest from Houma Police. Both suspects were jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Camelia Tosca-Chan, 35, of Morgan City, was arrested at 10:35 a.m. Monday on charges of switched license plate, no driver’s license, no inspection sticker and no insurance.
An officer patrolling the area of Seventh Street near Marguerite Street observed a vehicle which he determined had a switched license plate. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Tosca-Chan, who told the officer that she did not have a driver’s license, Blair said. Chan was booked into jail and released after posting bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Michelle Aliska Dugas, 46, of the 400 block of Cavaness Drive in Houma, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. Monday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. No bail is set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
