Sheriff: Man had almost $4,000 in meth

A 38-year-old Morgan City man was caught with nearly $4,000 worth of methamphetamine after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives observed a vehicle swerving Wednesday on U.S. 90 near Franklin, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jared Loupe, 38, of the 3100 block of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane use.
Narcotics detectives traveling on U.S. 90 in the Franklin area observed a vehicle swerving across the center line multiple times. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Loupe. While speaking with Loupe, detectives observed a bag of methamphetamine on him.
Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located more methamphetamine, a fentanyl patch and a glass pipe. Narcotics detectives estimate the street value of the methamphetamine to be about $3,840. Loupe was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 41 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Timothy J. Marcel, 46, of the 2300 block of East Main Street in Broussard, was arrested at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Narcotics detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office went to a boat dock in Berwick in reference to a complaint of the smell of marijuana in the area near a boat.
While there, detectives spoke with Marcel, who admitted to having a pipe used to smoke crack in his vehicle. Detectives located the pipe. Marcel was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Andy Y. Volquez, 29, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:39 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana, no driver’s license, no vehicle insurance, stop sign violation and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle pass a stop sign at the intersection of Leona and Sixth streets, nearly causing a traffic crash. After conducting a traffic stop, the driver was identified as Volquez, who did not have a driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance and an expired inspection sticker.
Volquez’s behavior made officers suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity, Blair said. The officer located suspected marijuana on Volquez, and he was jailed.
—Quinton A. Smith, 29, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:18 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of obstruction of drivers view, driving under suspension and no vehicle insurance.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Brashear Avenue near La. 70 with a broken windshield and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Smith, who had a suspended driver’s license and no proof of vehicle insurance. Smith was jailed.
—Glynn A. Guidry Jr., 35, of Carline Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of appearing in public in an intoxicated condition.
A patrolling officer observed a subject walking in the area of Federal Avenue near Marshall Street, stumbling in the roadway. The officer stopped to check on the subject, identified as Guidry. While speaking with Guidry, he appeared to be intoxicated. Guidry was jailed.
—Perry L. Gerbine, 40, of Salmon Street in Lake Charles, was arrested at 12:40 a.m. today on the charges of possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alprazolam.
An officer responded to a convenience store on La. 182 in regard to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. The officer located the described vehicle and saw the driver, Gerbine, appear to be asleep inside.
The officer approached Gerbine about the complaint, and his behavior made officers suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity, Blair said. The officer searched the vehicle and located suspected synthetic marijuana, alprazolam and drug paraphernalia. Gerbine was jailed.
—Kandace L. Cambell, 19, of Halsey Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:12 a.m. today on the charges of criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.
Officers responded to an address on Halsey Street in regard to a call of a disturbance. Officers arrived and located a subject, later identified as the victim of the incident, along with Campbell. Police learned that Cambell had allegedly gone to the home causing a disturbance and breaking several items inside. Officers observed evidence of a disturbance along with broken items inside the home. Cambell was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
