Sheriff: Man pointed pistols at woman

A 37-year-old Morgan City man was charged today for aggravated assault with a firearm after he allegedly pointed two pistols in a woman’s face, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Rodney R. Williams, 37, of the 500 block of Belanger Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. today on the charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responded to a complaint of an assault at a bar on La. 182 in Bayou Vista.
Upon arrival, the deputy learned that a man pointed two pistols at a woman’s face before leaving in a pick-up truck, Hebert said.
The deputy located the suspect, identified as Williams, at his residence. While speaking with Williams, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him.
The deputy also observed that Williams’ speech was slurred, Hebert said. As the investigation progressed, the deputy located the two pistols in Williams’ truck. Williams was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Thomas C. Thompson, 41, of the 2800 block of First Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended license and failure to obey a traffic control signal.
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a jailer located an active warrant for Thompson. No bail is set.
—Melanie Francis, 30, of the 2900 block of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft.
A deputy conducting a check of a business in Bayou Vista received information regarding theft by an employee.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that Francis was seen on video surveillance taking items from the store without paying for the goods on several occasions, Hebert said.
The value of the stolen items is believed to be approximately $1,600, the sheriff said. Francis was jailed with no bail set.
—Willys Nelson, 32, of the 1900 block of Tremble Drive in Humber, Texas, was arrested at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Waterworks Road in Amelia. The deputy located the vehicle at the cemetery in Amelia and made contact with Nelson.
The deputy observed that Nelson was swaying where he stood and slurring his words as he answered her questions. The deputy also smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Nelson, the sheriff said. Nelson was jailed and later released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 14.
—Lynn Fields, 56, of the 100 block of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 6:29 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of Legend Drug Seroquel and possession of Schedule IV Xanax.
—Ben A. Broussard, 29, of the 100 block of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 6:29 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of Legend Drug Seroquel and possession of Schedule IV Xanax.
Narcotics division detectives observed a vehicle cross over the yellow line and conducted a traffic stop on La. 182 in the Ricohoc area.
Detectives made contact with the driver, Fields, and passenger, Broussard. While speaking with Fields, detectives received consent to search her vehicle, Hebert said. During the search, detectives located several legend Seroquel pills and a Xanax pill in the vehicle. Fields and Broussard were jailed with no bail set.
—Jody Cubbedge, 39, of the 800 block of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:04 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Narcotics detectives working with the Morgan City Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Canton Street in Berwick.
While initiating contact with the driver of the vehicle, a detective observed the back passenger, Cubbedge, shoving his hand in his shorts pocket, Hebert said.
Detectives removed Cubbedge from the vehicle and conducted a pat down for officer safety. A detective immediately felt several cellophane baggies with knots on the end containing a substance consistent with illegal drugs, Hebert said.
Detectives removed the bags which contained methamphetamine from Cubbedge’s pocket. Cubbedge was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Brittany N. Morgan, 24, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:04 a.m. today on the charges of possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule II methamphetamine, possession of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law.
—Earnest Harris Jr., 39, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:04 a.m. today on the charges of possession of Schedule I methamphetamine, possession of Schedule I MDMA ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law and possession of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.
—Mark A. Rentrop, 23, of La. 662 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:04 a.m. today on the charges of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, license plate light required, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 near Roderick Street observed a vehicle with improper lighting.
The officer stopped the vehicle to investigate. Officers were able to get consent to search the vehicle from the driver, Rentrop, Blair said.
Officers located suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle. Morgan arrived on scene and advised officers that more illegal narcotics were possibly in the residence on Glenwood Street that she and Harris, a passenger in the vehicle, shared, Blair said.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and officers located drug paraphernalia, suspected synthetic marijuana and suspected methamphetamine, Blair said. There was also a 4-year-old juvenile present in the residence. All three suspects were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Joshua Dimaggio, 17, of Burchfield Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace. Dimaggio was jailed on $150 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
