Sheriff: Man stole checks from employer

A 24-year-old Stephensville man was charged with forgery Monday after being accused of taking checks from the business where he was employed and cashing them, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Clay C. Broussard, 24, of Stephensville, at 9:12 a.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with forgery in the amount of $402.
The warrant stems from a June 1 investigation, in which Broussard was alleged to have taken checks from a business, in which he was an employee, made them out to himself and then cashed the checks, totaling $402, Blair said. Broussard was jailed.
—Lance C. Carbins, 39, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, at 2:45 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine on the charge of resisting an officer and a warrant for failure to pay a fine on the charge of disturbing the peace.
Carbins was located at the Morgan City Police Department and placed under arrest on outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Carbins was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 29 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Wilbert Poole III, 21, of the 7100 block of Main Street in Patterson, at 2:53 a.m. today on the charge of open alcoholic beverage in motor vehicles.
A deputy conducting a traffic stop in Bayou Vista made contact with a passenger in the vehicle identified as Poole. During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy located a cup containing a cold alcoholic beverage belonging to Poole. The deputy released Poole on a summons to appear in court Sept. 16.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Aaron Payton, 57, of the 1400 block of Hickory Street in Patterson, at 6:07 p.m. Monday on the charges of simple battery involving domestic violence second offense and aggravated assault involving domestic violence. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Mary Payton, 34, of the 1400 block of Hickory Street in Patterson, at 6:07 p.m. Monday on the charge of aggravated assault involving domestic violence. She was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
