Sheriff: Man throws pills after seeing detectives

A 58-year-old Morgan City man was charged Monday after detectives saw him riding a bicycle, and upon seeing authorities, he threw several Xanax pills on the ground, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Alton Livas, 58, of the 300 block of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:08 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of Schedule IV Xanax and obstruction of justice. Narcotics detectives patrolling the area of Fifth Street in Morgan City saw a man riding a bicycle in the roadway, Hebert said.
Detectives observed the man look back at them and throw several Xanax pills to the ground, the sheriff said. Detectives made contact with the man, identified as Livas. Following the investigation, Livas was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 47 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Kayla L. Comeaux, 27, of the 100 block of Moffat Court in Morgan City, Monday on three warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference. A deputy made contact with Comeaux at a location on La. 182 Frontage Road in Amelia and learned of the warrants for her arrest. Bail is set at $300,000.
—Jerret C. Cortez, 26, of the 200 block of Vivian Street in Morgan City, at 8:59 p.m. Monday on five warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference. Cortez turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Bail is set at $500,000.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Donterrieaux Bell, 25, of Belle Rose, at 6:29 a.m. Monday on the charges of driving under suspension, window tint violation and no proof of registration.
A patrolling officer in the area of Marguerite and Sixth streets observed a vehicle with improper window tint. The officer stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Bell, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. It was determined that Bell’s license was under suspension and he could not provide the proper registration for the vehicle. Bell was jailed and later released on bail.
—Derrick J. Batiste, 27, of Grove Street in Morgan City, at 11:18 a.m. Monday on warrants for failure to comply with terms and conditions of drug court and failure to pay fine.
Batiste turned himself into the Morgan City Police Department for outstanding warrants he held for the 16th Judicial Court and the 6th Ward City Court. Batiste was jailed.
—Terrell Irvin, 17, of Oak Street in Morgan City, at 2:01 p.m. Monday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Sixth Street in regards to a disturbance. Officers were informed that Irvin had committed a battery on another person. According to reports, Irvin and another person had gotten into a verbal altercation that had turned physical. Irvin was located in the area and jailed.
—Carlise T. Grogan, 24, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, at 2:14 pm. Monday on a warrant charging him for contempt of court.
Grogan was located in the area of Sixth and Everett streets. Grogan held an outstanding warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. She was jailed.
—Donnell Williams, 18, of Trevino Street in Berwick, at 10:31 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
—Deondre F. Walker, 18, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, at 10:31 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Railroad Avenue in regards to loud music. Officers made contact with Walker and Williams sitting in a vehicle. Inside the vehicle, officers located suspected marijuana, Blair said. Both Walker and Williams were jailed.
—Derek J. Pellegrin, 18, of Houma, at 9:48 a.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no seat belt and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
—A male juvenile, 16, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer in the area of U.S. 90 westbound, noticed a vehicle with the driver not wearing a seat belt, Blair said. A traffic stop was con-ducted. During the investigation, officers located suspected marijuana in the vehicle and items used to smoke marijuana. Pellegrin and the juvenile passenger were transported to the police department. The juvenile was released to a guardian.
—Stephen C. Barbour, 30, of Jones Street in Berwick, at 3:15 p.m. Sunday on the charge of theft of goods ($17.82).
Officers were dispatched to a supermarket on La. 182 in regards to a theft. Officers located the suspect, Barbour, who was found to be in possession of items belonging to the supermarket, Blair said. Barbour was jailed.
—Crystal G. Thompson, 36, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, at 12:15 a.m. today on a warrant charging her with three counts of failure to appear for drug court.
A patrolling officer noticed a vehicle make an improper turn in the area of La. 182 near Myrtle Street. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. The officer also ran a local war-rants check on the passenger of the vehicle, Thompson. Officers determined she held active warrants for the 16th Judicial Court. Thompson was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Christopher Webb, 46, of the 700 block of St. Michael Street in Patterson, at 5:37 p.m. Friday at the Morgan City jail on a Patterson Police warrant charging him with distribution of cocaine. Webb was jailed with no bail set.
—Stephanie Varnam, 26, of the 100 block of Foxglove Drive in Patterson, at 6:40 p.m. Friday on the charge of simple battery. Varnam was released on her own recognizance.
—Cory Pierce, 28, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, at 9 p.m. Friday on the charges of resisting an officer by failure to comply, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana second offense. Pierce was jailed with no bail set.
—Dylan Boling, 19, of the 200 block of Hunting Road in Franklin, at 7:35 p.m. Saturday on the charges of speeding 63 mph in a 45 mph zone, suspended driver’s license and possession of a Schedule IV drug. Boling was jailed with bail set.
—Donald McCormick, 27, of the 300 block of Hyland Drive in Thibodaux, at 12:49 a.m. Sunday on the charges of improper acceleration, open container, driving under suspension, expired license plate, resisting an officer by giving false information, possession of marijuana second offense and on a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant. McCormick was jailed with no bail set.
—Timothy Meredith, 41, of the 2900 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, at 12:52 a.m. Sunday on the charge of obscenity and on a Morgan City Police warrant. Meredith was jailed on $337 bail.
—Ty Hammond, 35, of the 700 block of St. Michael Street in Patterson, at 10:58 p.m. Sunday on the charge of violation of a protective order. Hammond was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
