Police are searching for the owners of vehicle batteries stolen in late November.
David J. Tabb, 28, of Irish Bend Road in Franklin, was arrested at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday after turning himself in to the Morgan City Police Department on St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants for six counts of possession of stolen things.
Traci Landry, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said in late November, the department received multiple complaints of stolen vehicle batteries from the Franklin and Verdunville areas.
The department arrested Tabb on the evening of Nov. 27, 2014, for simple burglary after he was located on Irish Bend Road in Franklin with 28 batteries in his truck.
Tabb admitted to the deputy that he stole the batteries from other vehicles in the parking lot of an industrial business in Franklin, Landry said.
As the investigation into the stolen batteries continued, the detective assigned to the case located other battery owners and obtained six warrants for the additional charges of illegal possession of stolen things.
Landry said owners of missing 18-wheeler and tractor batteries that were taken in late November from the Franklin and Verdunville areas should contact law enforcement with a description of the missing battery as officers continue to try to match batteries in their possession to owners.
