Teens charged with theft, possession of stolen things

A Bayou Vista teen turned himself in Thursday for the theft of a dirt bike and four-wheeler after a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detective saw another teen riding the stolen dirt bike in the Patterson area, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Austin Thomassie, 18, of the 100 block of Riverview Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 6:12 p.m. Thursday on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
—Cameron Jackson, 17, of the 100 block of Sun Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:05 p.m. Thursday on the charges of two counts of theft.
On Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of the theft of a dirt bike and four-wheeler from the Patterson and Ricohoc area. A narcotics division detective traveling on U.S. 90 observed a person riding a dirt bike matching the description of the vehicle that was reported stolen and stopped the subject. The detective identified him as Thomassie.
Thomassie was jailed with no bail set. Later that evening, a criminal investigation division detective was notified that a subject wanted to turn himself in for committing a theft. The detective made contact with Jackson at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. During a conversation with the detective, Jackson admitted to taking the two vehicles. Jackson was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 34 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish
—John McGraw, 31, of the 2100 block of Louisiana Avenue in New Orleans, was arrested at 4:27 p.m. Thursday on the charges of no insurance and failure to yield. A deputy investigating a vehicle crash on Duhon Boulevard in Amelia gathered evidence that McGraw failed to yield as he pulled out of a private drive. The deputy also found that he was operating the vehicle without insurance. McGraw was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
—Nicholas Case, 21, of the 1800 block of East Garner Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. today on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Tiara Washington, 21, of the 4500 block of Labelle Boulevard in New Iberia, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. today on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Dontrell Brown, 22, of the 1300 block of Joseph Street in Siracusa, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. today on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Joseph Street that was parked at a vacant residence. As the deputy approached the truck, a man, identified as Brown, exited the vehicle. The deputy observed a cloud of smoke emanating from the vehicle and smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana.
The deputy then located a woman, identified as Washington, inside the truck. The deputy also made contact with another man, identified as Case, who approached the deputy during the investigation. The deputy also observed a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle along with a grinder and located a marijuana cigar, commonly referred to as a blunt, in Brown’s shoe.
Brown and Washington were released on summonses to appear in court July 25. Case was booked into parish jail and later released on $3,000 personal surety bail.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Ryan A. Billiot, 35, of Saizon Street in Port Barre, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. Thursday on the charges of no turn signal and driving under suspension.
Investigators with the narcotics division observed a vehicle not use a turn signal in the area of Federal and Brashear avenues and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Billiot, had a suspended driver’s license. Billiot was jailed.
—Orlando Guidry, 44, of Florida Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Thursday on the charge of criminal damage to property.
Officers responded to a home on Fifth Street in regard to a disturbance. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim who stated that he and Guidry had gotten into a verbal altercation. During the altercation, Guidry damaged one of the windows of the home. Officers were able to locate Guidry outside of the home and arrested him.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Andrew Hebert, 24, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:32 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. Hebert’s bail is set at $1,250, and he also has a hold on him for probation and parole.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
