Three charged in drug investigation

Three people were arrested on drug charges Wednesday in Bayou Vista after narcotics detectives saw a transaction in a parking lot, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—David J. Allen, 27, of Gen. Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of obstruction of justice, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions involving drug proceeds.
—Darren J. Jackson, 32, of Todd Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
—Guyla S. Bliss, 48, of Tower Tank Road in Stephensville, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Sheriff’s office and Morgan City police narcotics detectives were patrolling Bayou Vista. While at the intersection of La. 182 and Southeast Boulevard, detectives observed a hand-to-hand transaction between a woman and two men who were seated inside a vehicle in a parking lot.
Detectives had received multiple complaints of possible illegal drug activity at that location. Detectives made contact with the people and identified them as Bliss, Allen and Jackson. While speaking with them, a detective observed Allen attempt to conceal an item near his feet inside the truck.
Allen was ordered to exit the vehicle. As Allen got out of the truck, a detective saw him drop a plastic bag containing shards of methamphetamine to the ground. The detective then observed Allen attempt to step on the bag. During the subsequent investigation, detectives located a marijuana cigarette on Bliss and a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine on Jackson.
Detectives also located an active warrant for Jackson. During a search of the truck, detectives found a bag containing methamphetamine residue and several burnt marijuana cigarettes. Detectives then located $300 in cash in Allen’s pocket. The money is suspected of being derived from the sale of illegal drugs.
Bliss was released on a summons to appear court April 5. Allen and Jackson were jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 41 com-plaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish.
—Earl Pyle Jr., 36, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A correctional officer located the active war-rant for Pyle who was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and booked him on the charge. Bail on the charge is set at $50,000.
—Andrew Wiersma, 40, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of theft. A deputy investigating a complaint of theft collected evidence that Wiersma made unauthorized charges to the company he worked for in Bayou Vista at two hardware stores in Morgan City and Houma. The signed invoices totaled over $600.
Wiersma was booked into parish jail and released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Rachel Killingsworth, 23, of Victoria Riverside Road in Patterson, was arrested at 12:50 a.m. Thursday on the charge of careless operation of a vehicle with a crash, no driver’s license, and possession of marijuana.
Deputies working a single vehicle crash on Zenor Road near Victoria Riverside Road in Patterson identified Killingsworth as the driver of the car. A deputy located Killingsworth at her home. The deputy spoke with her and learned that Killingsworth lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.
The deputy also found that Killingsworth was operating the vehicle without a license. While inside Killingsworth’s residence, the deputy observed three burnt marijuana cigarettes. Following the investigation, Killingsworth was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Donald Mcbride, 44, of Picou Road in Houma, was arrested at 4:08 a.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of cocaine. A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle parked beneath the La. 182 bridge.
As the deputy approached the vehicle, it began to slowly drive away. The deputy stopped the vehicle, made contact with the driver, identified as Mcbride.
While speaking with Mcbride, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a small plastic bag containing a small amount of cocaine. Mcbride was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Jerome Guidry, 38, of Pluto Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of unauthorized use of access cards.
Guidry was arrested at the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant stemming from an investigation conducted by Morgan City Police Detectives of an incident reported Oct. 18 of alleged unauthorized use of access cards for an undetermined amount of money.
Guidry was booked into the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated. The investigation continues.
—Angela Campbell, 53, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of theft by shoplifting and simple battery.
Officers responded to a grocery store on Brashear Avenue in regard to a report of a shoplifter. Police arrived and spoke with the store management who directed officers to a female still on scene, identified as Campbell. Campbell was detained for further investigation.
During the investigation, officers were told that Campbell was ob-served taking items from the store and attempting to flee when Campbell committed a battery on an employee that confronted Campbell about the alleged theft, according to reports.
The items, valued at $27.95, were recovered and returned to the store. Campbell was jailed.
—Christopher C. Adams, 42, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear for drug court proceedings.
Officers located Adams on Eighth Street near Duke Street where he was arrested on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant. Adams was jailed.
—Clarence Junifer, 56, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with probation violation. Junifer was arrested in the Morgan City Court on a warrant. Junifer was jailed.
—Kristi K. Adams, 37, of John Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of improper lighting, possession of marijuana, possession of Soma, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Marguerite Street near Sixth Street with improper brake lighting. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Adams. Her behavior made officers suspicious that she may be involved in illegal drug activity.
Police searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana, Soma and drug paraphernalia. The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of controlled dangerous substance laws. Adams was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Hope Martin, 39, of Fortins Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday on a state probation and parole warrant for the Leesville district and a Vernon Parish warrant charging her with criminal damage to property, theft, possession of stolen things and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. Martin was awaiting transport to Vernon Parish.
—Lance Toups, 44, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:49 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with disturbing the peace. Toups posted $176 cash bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
