Traffic stop turns into resisting charge for Morgan City man

A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday after obstructing a roadway without a headlight, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Brent A. Green, 20, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:24 p.m. Thursday on the charges of resisting an officer, obstructing public passage, and headlamps for motor vehicles.
A patrol officer in the area of Fourth and Louisiana streets observed a vehicle in the middle of the roadway with a headlight out. A traffic stop was conducted and officers made contact with the driver, Green. As officers approached Green, he began using profanities.
Green was asked to calm down by officers, but continued. Green was placed under arrest and began resisting the officer, but was subdued. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and later released on bail.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Michael S. Cairns, 33, of La. 662 in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:21 a.m. today on the charge of theft under $750.
Officers were dispatched to a local bar on La. 182 in regard to someone unable to pay for items that were consumed. Officers made contact with employees of the bar and were told that Cairns could not pay his tab.
Officers located Cairns and he told officers that he did not have the money. Cairns was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and he was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Carrie J. Carlisle, 20, of the 3100 block of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:07 p.m. Thursday for theft of goods. A deputy was dispatched to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista and learned from store personnel that Carlisle concealed items in a diaper bag before leaving the store without paying for the goods.
The deputy made contact with Carlisle. While speaking to her, she admitted that she did hide the items and did attempt to leave the store without paying for them. The deputy released Carlisle on a summons to appear in court on Nov. 17.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Carmel Triggs Jr., 33, of the 800 block of Tall Timbers in Patterson, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. Thursday on the charge of aggravated assault.
—Charles Alexander Belt, 35, of the 400 block of Morrison Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:36 a.m. today on the charge of sexual battery indecent behavior with juvenile.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
