Two charged in bar fight

Two men were arrested Thursday in connection with a June bar fight in Amelia that left one victim with a gash to the head, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Juan Salazar-Maldanado, 24, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:15 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with aggravated second degree battery.
—Rigobert Cruz-Barrios, 30, of Odile Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with aggravated second degree battery.
On June 19, a deputy responded to a report of a fight at a bar on La. 182 in Amelia. The deputy found evidence that Maldonado and Barrios were involved in a fight with two other men.
The deputy also learned that during the fight, three pool sticks were damaged. Maldonado and Barrios were arrested for disturbing the peace fighting and criminal damage to property. Continuing the investigation, the deputy made contact with a male victim the following morning.
The victim sustained a gash to his head requiring medical treatment. The deputy collected evidence that Maldonado and Barrios struck the victim in the head with pool sticks. The deputy obtained warrants for their arrest. Maldonado and Barrios were located at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin and taken into custody. Maldonado and Barrios were jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Eric Gaskins, 45, of Apple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Thursday on the charges of criminal damage to property, two counts of resisting a police officer, two counts of battery of a police officer and disturbing the peace.
After receiving a call that there was some concern for the welfare of a male subject, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Friendship Alley to make contact with the subject. Upon arrival, deputies observed two people holding down another person, identified as Gaskins.
As deputies worked to detain Gaskins, he began swinging his arms, striking a deputy in the face. Gaskins then pushed another deputy. After detaining Gaskins, deputies spoke with several witnesses who explained that the man charged the home and broke a screen door, gaining entry to a porch.
That is when the two subjects brought him into the yard and held him until deputies arrived. Because of his excited state, Gaskins was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center. After being released from the hospital, Gaskins was jailed with no bail set.
—Anthony J. Stelly, 21, of Bruce Circle in Breaux Bridge, was arrested at 11:17 p.m. Thursday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation, and possession of an open container of alcohol in motor vehicles.
A deputy working in the Siracusa area observed a vehicle traveling 83 mph in a posted 45 mph zone on La. 182. The deputy conducted a traffic stop. While approaching the driver, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the car.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Stelly. While speaking with Stelly, he admitted that he had been drinking. The deputy performed a field sobriety test on which Stelly performed poorly. Stelly later registered 0.153 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. The deputy also located over a dozen open containers of beer inside the car. Stelly was jailed with no bail set.
—Chantal Burke, 22, of Tiffany Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:34 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging her with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Adderall and possession of Xanax.
On Aug. 3, the K-9 Unit of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section conducted a traffic stop on Waveland Street in Patterson and made contact with a passenger, identified as Burke. The detective received consent to search the vehicle and located prescription pill bottles with no labels containing Adderall and Xanax pills as well as a bag containing marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia in Burke’s purse.
Burke was also found to have an active warrant from Patterson Police. Burke was arrested on that warrant at the time of the traffic stop. Continuing the investigation into the illegal drugs that were located, the detective obtained another warrant for Burke’s arrest. While traveling in Baldwin, the detective observed Burke on Ralph Darden Memorial Parkway, made contact with her, and transported her to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Dean Aucoin, 46, of Bowman Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a controlled dangerous sub-stance law-drug free zone, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor and possession of hydrocodone with intent to distribute.
—Melissa Chavers, 47, of Bowman Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a controlled dangerous sub-stance law-drug free zone and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.
—Cameron Aucoin, 17, of Bowman Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Nar-cotics Section along with officers of the Berwick Police Department executed a search warrant at the Bowman Street address. Detectives encountered Dean Aucoin, Chavers and Cameron Aucoin. They also made contact with a juvenile in the home at the time of the investigation.
Detectives located several bags of methamphetamine and bags of hydrocodone pills. The items were packaged in a manner consistent with the street level sale of illegal drugs.
During the investigation, detectives found additional evidence that Chavers and Dean Aucoin were selling the drugs. Detectives also located several water pipes used for smoking marijuana in Cameron Aucoin’s room. The residence is located less than a block from Berwick Elementary School.
Cameron Aucoin was re-leased on a summons to appear in court Dec. 14. Dean Aucoin and Chavers were jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Kevin A. Adams, 28, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:22 a.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of marijuana third offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone and a warrant for probation violation.
Officers were dispatched to a motel on La. 182 in regard to agents with the Office of Probation and Parole having detained an individual who had illegal narcotics in his possession. Officers arrived and identified the individual as Adams.
Police also located items used to smoke illegal narcotics in his possession. The location of the motel is within a drug free zone. Adams was jailed.
—Louis K. Sands, 57, of Martin Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 8:26 p.m. Thurs-day on the charges of driving under suspension and no tail lights.
—Justin Ford, 25, of Beadle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:26 p.m. Thursday on the charges of trailer and towed vehicles and no driver’s license.
A patrol officer in the area of Railroad Avenue and Poncio Street observed a vehicle towing another vehicle using a strap. The vehicle being towed did not have any working lights, and the officer stopped the vehicle. The drivers of both vehicles were asked to produce valid driver’s licenses.
A computer check revealed that Ford does not have a driver’s license. The driver of the other vehicle, Louis Sands, had a suspended driver’s license. Both Ford and Sands were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Christopher Sylvester Jr., 20, of Versen Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:28 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of controlled dangerous substance law in a drug free zone. No bail is set yet.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
