Two suspects charged with theft over $5K in separate cases
Morgan City Police and Patterson Police arrested two suspects for theft over $5,000 Tuesday in separate investigations, Chief James Blair sand Chief Patrick LaSalle said in a news releases.
—Richard Darnell Claxton, 46, of the 10600 block of Foxlair Drive in St. Louis, Missouri, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with theft over $5,000 (fraud – insufficient funds – check $6,995.80). No bail is set.
—Tiffany D. Laurent, 34, of Home Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 9:59 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft over $5,000.
Laurent turned herself in to the Morgan City Police for an active warrant she held for the Morgan City Police Department. Laurent is accused of stealing about $6,000 from a Morgan City business. She was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Eddie Mayfield, 30, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft under $750.
Officers responded to a hotel on Martin Luther King Boulevard in regards to a theft. When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim. The victim noticed an individual riding a bike similar to his bicycle. When the victim checked on his bike, it was gone.
Officers received a description of the suspect and located an individual riding a bicycle fitting the description on Victor II Boulevard. The individual was identified as Mayfield, who admitted to taking the bike. Mayfield was jailed.
—Fran M. Keller, 52, of Main Street in Patterson, at 10:38 a.m. Tuesday on warrants charging her with two counts of probation violation, failure to pay probation fees and failure to appear for trial.
Keller was located at a hotel on Brashear Avenue. Police determined that she held active warrants for the 6th Ward City Court. Keller was jailed.
—Ronald Johnson Jr., 24, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, at 9 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two counts of probation violation.
Johnson turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department for active warrants held for the 6th Ward City Court. Johnson was jailed.
—Barry L. Jones, 28, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, at 8:51 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two counts of failure to pay fines.
Jones was located in the area of Myrtle Street and determined to have active warrants for the 6th Ward City Court. Jones was jailed.
—Felton Charles Jr., 33, of 11th Street in Morgan City, at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging him with probation violation and contempt of court.
Charles was stopped for a traffic violation on 11th Street. During the investigation, Charles was determined to have active warrants for the 6th Ward City Court. Charles was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ronald Johnson Jr., 24, of the 500 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant from the Morgan City Police Department charging him with probation violation. A deputy responding to a complaint on Saturn Road made contact with Johnson at his residence and located the active warrant for his arrest. Johnson was jailed with bail set.
—Donald Bennett Jr., 54, of the 500 block of Vaughn Alley in Patterson, at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of distribution of cocaine.
During the booking process at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the active warrants for Bennett. No bail is set.
—Daniel Aucoin Jr., 29, of the 3100 block of Roselawn Drive in Morgan City, at 3:37 a.m. today on the charge of criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a report of property damage at a bar in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, the deputy collected evidence that Aucoin kicked a glass door causing it to shatter during an argument with another subject. Aucoin was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
