(Updated) Bayou Vista battery suspect turns himself in to authorities

A suspect in a physical altercation Friday in Bayou Vista, during which one woman suffered a broken nose and the suspect himself was shot, is in law enforcement custody after turning himself in Monday evening to authorities in Terrebonne Parish, according to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office news release.

John Buck Jr., 30, of Ricohoc, turned himself in Monday to St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives in Terrebonne Parish. Buck was arrested by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Monday evening on the warrant from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for second-degree battery, home invasion, simple battery and disturbing the peace. Buck was transported to the Terrebonne Parish jail pending transfer to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. This investigation is ongoing.

At 7:21 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a home in the 300 block of Carol Road in Bayou Vista. Deputies first on scene learned that Buck and a woman were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.

Another subject at the home shot Buck with .22-caliber gun. Buck then fled the home on foot. Deputies along with the K-9 Unit and detectives tracked the suspect through the yards of several homes in the area, the release said.

Buck allegedly committed batteries against two women during the altercation. One of the victims was treated at Teche Regional Medical Center after suffering a broken nose and possible bruised ribs, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Detective Lt. Traci Landry said.

The sheriff is “not seeking charges at this time” against the person who shot Buck, Landry said.

A K-9 team with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search.
