Victim loses consciousness during attack

A 22-year-old Patterson man was caught Wednesday on a warrant in which he is accused of repeatedly punching another man in the face causing him to lose consciousness, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jerome Rudolph Jr., 22, of the 1800 block of N. Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with second degree battery.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of a battery that occurred at a bar on La. 182 in Bayou Vista in the early morning hours of April 5.
The detective assigned to the case learned that a male victim was repeatedly punched in the face causing him to lose consciousness, Hebert said.
The victim also sustained lacerations to his head and subsequently sought medical treatment at a local hospital.
During the investigation, the detective positively identified the suspect who struck the victim as Rudolph and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Rudolph was located at the Lafourche Parish jail and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 47 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Patrick Augman, 41, of the 1300 block of Ninth Street in Patterson, at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things and on a warrant for theft of goods.
A deputy located Augman at his residence on the warrants.
The warrant for theft of goods was obtained following an investigation into a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista.
The deputy learned from store personnel that Augman was seen June 14 on video surveillance leaving the store with stolen merchandise, Hebert said.
Augman was jailed with no bail set.
—Rachel Beranek, 30, of the 200 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple battery.
—James L. Beranek, 29, of the 200 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple battery.
—Dean Beranek, 29, of the 100 block of Burchfield Lane in Berwick, at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple battery.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a battery that occurred at a residence in Bayou Vista.
During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that Dean Beranek struck his brother, James Beranek, on the face during a verbal altercation.
As the two became engaged in a physical encounter, Rachel Beranek, James’ wife, pushed Dean Beranek. Rachel Beranek was released on a summons to appear in court Sept. 16. James Beranek and Dean Beranek were transported to the parish jail for booking.
James Beranek was released on $50 bail. Dean Beranek’s bail is set at $500.
—Douglas Henely, 49, of the 7200 block of U.S. 90 in Morgan City, at 7:26 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of crack cocaine and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone).
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division patrolling the Morgan City area made contact with Henely on Fifth Street.
While speaking with Henely, detectives received consent to search and located crack cocaine on him, Hebert said.
The illegal drug was found within 2,000 of a nearby church. Henely was booked into jail and released after posting $1,500 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—George J. Washington, 39, of Patterson, at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple assault.
Washington was located in the City Court of Morgan City. The victim alleges that Washington made threatening comments towards her, Blair said.
Washington was ordered by the courts to not have any contact with the victim.
Washington admitted to talking to the victim, Blair said. Washington was jailed.
—Nicholas P. Cutrone, 26, of Gretna, at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging him with felony theft in the amount of $995 and possession of stolen things.
The warrants stem from an investigation started in May, which alleges Cutrone had taken items from a residence that valued $995, Blair said. Cutrone was jailed.
—Travis T. Singleton, 30, of Leona Street in Morgan City, at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging him with failure to appear and probation violation.
Singleton was located in the area of Fifth Street and Brashear Avenue. Singleton was found to have outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court, Blair said. He was jailed.
—Benjamin J. Justilian, 20, of Duke Street in Morgan City, at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of driving under suspension, license plate light required and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with failure to appear.
A patrol officer in the area of Marshall Street and Federal Avenue observed a vehicle with improper lighting.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Justilian, was determined to have a suspended driver’s license and held an outstanding warrant for the 16th Judicial District Court. Justilian was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Donald R. Primeaux, 35, of the 1700 block of Harry D Street in Patterson, at 8:41 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of simple battery involving domestic violence. Primeaux was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
