Woman accused of kicking officer

A 37-year-old Texas woman was charged with battery and battery on a police officer after she allegedly struck a man in the face and later kicked a police officer trying to arrest her, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Jennifer Lazano, 37, of Brownsville, Texas, was arrested at 9:07 p.m. Sunday on the charges of resisting an officer, simple battery, disturbing the peace, and battery on a police officer.
Officers were dispatched to a local apartment complex on La. 182 in regards to a disturbance. Officers arrived and were told that Lazano had committed a battery on an individual. Officers spoke to the victim and were told that he and Lazano were having a verbal dispute, when Lazano struck him in the face.
Officers observed marks on the victim’s face consistent with his statement. Officers located Lazano in the residence and placed her under arrest. While placing Lazano under arrest, she pulled away from an officer and began kicking the officer. Lazano was subdued and jailed.

—Nakisha N. Hunter, 28, of New Iberia, at 2:34 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, pit bull ordinance violation, illegal possession of stolen things, and on Franklin Police Department and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants for failure to appear.
—Donald J. Melancon, 28, of Franklin, at 2:34 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, transactions involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity, and distribution of Schedule II methamphetamine.
—Gary J. Johnson, 40, of Morgan City, at 2:34 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law.
The Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division along with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division executed a search warrant on an Egle Street residence. Detectives located Hunter, Melancon and Johnson inside the home. During the investigation, officers located a large amount of methamphetamine, items used to smoke illegal narcotics, over $300 in cash and a .40-caliber firearm that belonged to Melancon. Hunter, Melancon and Johnson were all jailed.
—Melanie A. Francis, 30, of Morgan City, at 12:13 p.m. Friday on the charges of motor vehicle sticker expired and failure to appear.
A patrol officer in the area of Garber Street and Federal Avenue observed a vehicle with an expired motor vehicle sticker and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Francis, was determined to have an active warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. Francis was jailed.
—Jerry Boyer, 68, of Morgan City, at 2:46 p.m. Friday on the charges of appearing in public intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on Brashear Avenue in regards to someone sleeping behind the building. Officers arrived and made contact with Boyer. Officers could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Boyer’s breath and he appeared intoxicated. Boyer was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Louis A. James, 35, of Morgan City, at 10 p.m. Friday on the charges of warrant simple battery.
James was transported from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant held for the Morgan City Police Department. The warrant stems from an incident in November 2011, in which James allegedly burglarized a residence on La. 182. James was jailed.
—Christopher Waguespack, 39, of Morgan City, at 8:27 p.m. Friday on the charges of warrant simple battery involving a juvenile and warrant domestic abuse battery.
Waguespack was found at his home and jailed on a warrant stemming from a July incident, in which Waguespack allegedly committed a battery on a 16-year-old and another individual.
—Ward H. Carlson, 54, of Morgan City, at 8:35 p.m. Friday on the charges of probation violation and a warrant for failure to pay fines.
Carlson was located in the area of Freret and Seventh streets. It was determined that he held active warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Carlson was jailed.
—Roberto C. Diaz, 34, of New Orleans, at 4:08 a.m. Saturday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, careless operation, and no driver’s license.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 and Myrtle Street observed a vehicle leave the roadway and hit a curb causing one of the tires to blow out. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver, Diaz, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. It was determined that Diaz did not have a driver’s license. The officer could also smell an odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Diaz’s breath. Diaz was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department. Once at the police department, Diaz was asked to submit to the chemical test for intoxication. Diaz results yielded a blood alcohol content of .189 g percent. Diaz was additionally charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
—Trey M. Robin, 18, of Houma, at 8:12 a.m. Saturday on the charge of appearing in public intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to Bernice Street in regards to an intoxicated person in the area. Officers arrived and located Robin. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Robin’s breath and he was unable to maintain his balance while talking to officers. Robin was jailed.
—Fran Keller, 51, of Patterson, at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on the charge of warrant failure to pay fine.
Keller was transported from the Assumption Parish Jail to the Morgan City Police Department for an outstanding warrant she held for the Sixth Ward City Court. Keller was jailed.
—Justin C. Moye, 19, of Morgan City, at 11:13 p.m. Saturday on the charges of reckless operation and drag racing on public roads.
—Rico M. Navarro, 20, of Morgan City, at 11:13 p.m. Saturday on the charges of reckless operation and drag racing on public roads.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 and Redwood Street observed two vehicles side by side travelling faster than the speed posted and causing other vehicles to move into the turning lane of the highway. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicles. The drivers of the vehicles were Moye and Navarro. According to reports, both drivers admitted to racing on the highway. Both Moye and Navarro were jailed.
—Rickie J. Hayes, 51, of Morgan City, at 12:37 a.m. Sunday on the charge of simple assault.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Arizona Street in regards to a disturbance. Officers were told Hayes was making threats to harm a woman and her 14-year-old son. Officers made contact with Hayes at the residence. Hayes was belligerent and refused to calm down, after being asked several times. Hayes was jailed.
—Travis D. Wells, 34, of Baton Rouge, at 2:55 a.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension and no insurance.
A patrol officer was dispatched to a local business on Sixth Street in regards to a vehicle crash in the parking lot. The officer arrived and made contact with one of the drivers, Wells. A check was done on Wells’ driver’s license and it was determined to be suspended. Wells also did not have insurance for his vehicle. Wells was jailed.
—Brian Resendiz, 18, of Morgan City, at 11:21 p.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on La. 182 in regards to a disturbance. Officers arrived and were told that Resendiz was using profanities toward employees and refusing to leave, Blair said. Officers made contact with Resendiz and could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. Resendiz was jailed.
—John S. Brooks, 41, of Monroe, at 11:03 a.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with violation of a protective order.
Brooks turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant. Brooks was booked and later released on bail.
—Calab L. Mitchell, 19, of South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, at 7:56 p.m. Monday on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on South Railroad Avenue in regards to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told that Mitchell and another individual had gotten in to a physical altercation. Mitchell was booked and later released on bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 28 complaints in the parish and reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
