’Jacks travel to Donaldsonville for district play

Patterson opens District 9-3A play in Donaldsonville Friday on a four-game winning streak.
The Lumberjacks knocked off Southern Lab, 51-24, in Baton Rouge last week.
Patterson quarterback Spencer Landry was 20-of-28 for 301 yards and four touchdowns. The senior has completed 112-of-198 passes for 1,817 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. Three of Landry’s touchdowns a week ago went to standout receiver Daylon Charlot.
Charlot had four catches for 102 yards and three scores. The junior has caught 28 passes for 531 and 10 touchdowns this season.
Mykel Jones added five catches for 58 yards last week, while Jedrick Gunner had four catches for 45 yards and a score.
This season, Jones leads the Lumberjacks with 35 catches for 615 yards and seven scores, while Gunner has caught 14 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown.
Patterson (4-2, 0-0) also got the running game going Friday. Deontay Jones carried 16 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones leads the Lumberjacks’ rushing attack this season with 51 carries for 266 yards and five touchdowns.
“We’ve got better running the football, and we are going to keep working at it,” Patterson head coach Tommy Minton said after Friday’s win. “We faced those 5A schools that were very physical upfront, and we’re going to get better as the season goes on.”
Tristen Ausama also had 48 yards on six carries Friday and has rushed 43 times for 221 yards and a score this season.
Donaldsonville (3-3, 0-1) lost 48-22 to E.D. White Friday. The Tigers, outgained the Cardinals, 323-to-296 yards. Donaldsonville quarterback Tyler Brown was 14-for-32 passing for 195 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had a rushing touchdown. Stephen Sullivan was the leading receiver with 94 yards and a score.
But EDW recorded five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumbles) and scored 24 points off them.
“They’re very similar to Southern Lab,” Minton said. “They like to spread you out and they have really good skill people. But they’re very young on the o-line, and that’s something I think we can exploit.”
Donaldsonville runs a 3-4 defensive scheme with pressure.
“They blitz a lot and they play man-to-man coverage on the outside,” Minton said. “So we have to protect (the quarterback) and win the battles on the outside.”
The Jacks are averaging nearly 40 points per game.
Patterson is averaging 442.7 yards per contest, including 302.8 passing.
Friday’s kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
